  • Okay but not great

This podcast is an example of a pendulum swing, moving away from one wayside of error, into another. Some episodes are gold, others are not good at all. Take heed how you listen.

  • A freeing tonic for a once chained follower

This podcast does not only provide a clear picture of the “Message Church” and it’s origins but it is also an excellent resource for those still within the church seeking to know and understand how many of the pillars that hold up the message came to be.

For any young and old follower who has been plagued with questions on doctrine you will find freedom in many of the topics discussed. Thank you for the work of the podcast team - your work has freed a great number of souls.

  • Untangling the lies from IHOPKC

This podcast has been a surprisingly helpful tool for me in untangling so much of my charismatic childhood and the damage that I experienced in the IHOP KC cult with Mike Bickel, whose mentor was Paul Cain. I left in 2010 (and for the most part left the faith) but in light of recent allegations of sexual abuse against Mike Bickle, have found myself revisiting all the old wounds and traumas. I really appreciate the knowledge these men share and how I can see all these teachings making their way ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

From Word Of Faith To Deliverance Trauma: A Survivor’s Story
Q: Have you ever wondered how the Pentecostal movement started, or how the progression of modern Pentecostalism transitioned through the latter reign, charismatic and other fringe movements into the new apostolic reformation?
Candice explains that understanding the historical progression requires looking at leaders' structures, the shift from entertainment-focused ministry to hierarchical control, and the ways these movements influenced later trends like the NAR; she illuminates how these patterns show up in her own experiences and why she sought more contextual biblical understanding after leaving.
How John Wimber Reshaped Worship in the UK
Q: Do you think the church growth focus and the worship model were intentional strategies, and what about the authoritarian aspects discussed?
The hosts discuss a potential strategic layer to the worship model aimed at growth, with concerns about authoritarian dynamics and dependency on leaders, while recognizing that the music often framed the spiritual encounter for attendees.
How John Wimber Reshaped Worship in the UK
Q: What was your personal experience with the shift in worship practices, especially playing with one finger?
Sam shares a vivid anecdote about adapting to limited capability, using minor chords to influence emotion, and reflects on the tension between personal worship and audience manipulation within the worship setting.
How John Wimber Reshaped Worship in the UK
Q: So what happened to music in the UK after Wimber's visits, and was it a good thing or not?
Sam suggests the shift brought more entertainment and crowd-pleasing elements, but questions whether worship shifted from genuine sacrifice to performance and whether the structure of the church adapted to growth at the expense of deeper spiritual connection.
Franklin Hall, Latter Rain, and the Untold Roots of Pentecostal History
Q: Have you ever wondered how the Pentecostal movement started, or how the progression of modern Pentecostalism transitioned through the latter rain, charismatic and other fringe movements into the New Apostolic Reformation?
The guest points to a web of historical connections—from Kansas and Missouri to California—between Franklin Hall, William Branham, Amy Semple MacPherson, and other revival leaders, arguing that ideas circulated widely and evolved through multiple movements, rather than arising from a single source.
