I picked up a postcard for this podcast at The Festival of Oddities recently. I’m so glad I did. Thanks for sharing your story.
Kory was my English teacher in the 7th grade back in 2011. She taught English to a precocious group of kids - we had taken the SATs in the 6th grade to get into her class. Her calm demeanor, bursts of genuine excitement for our budding literary minds, and unwavering commitment to reading every word we wrote shaped me deeply. It came up that her parents were divorced and her family dynamics were not particularly pleasant. She told us she wrote both poetry and essays, but that they were not age ap... more

The way this story unfolds, connecting so easily with Kory, this podcast should make anyone with a soul understand why some are predisposed to drug and alcohol addiction that continues a ripple effect felt by generations. Everyone needs to hear Kory’s testimony, and understand why abuse, poverty, and abuse are a crisis that we should all take responsibility for. Whether it’s turning a cheek or pointing a finger, this is an US problem.
I truly do not know where to begin so I want to simply say thank you, Kory, for displaying bravery, transparency, and a personal story that only YOU had to re-live. I cannot imagine losing a parent with a plethora of unanswered questions. You have inspired me and obviously so many as well. I continue to grieve the loss of my father who I lost 2 years ago. It doesn’t feel like 2 years, but more like 2 days, even at times, 2 minutes. I remain fixated in a particular phase of grief and you have tau... more
I couldn’t make it through the first episode. Sucked the life right out of me.
This is a gripping story but the author is so talented that I don’t doubt that she could raise any story to more ethereal level. The level of vulnerability /strength displayed throughout this story is both striking and moving.
I have listened to many a true crime podcasts and Kory took my breath away as she shared her story. Her willingness to open up and break down her story for her listens is truly amazing. I’m so excited to read some of her books because her storytelling was great. I couldn’t recommend this podcast more 🙂
