My story. Reflecting my experiences, observations and perspective - in my words.

In the early spring of 2019, under the influence of her gatekeeper-partner, in the heart of the global pandemic. After several years of trying to sort through our differences, my (young) adult daughter made the heartbreaking choice to cut all communication with our family.

  • Your daughter and you together just nailed it!

There is so much content available on estrangement from both sides, but I have never heard both a mom and their estranged adult child speak together. Your candid conversation is EXACTLY what this space is missing for both sides of this issue. Thanks to both you and to your adult child for being vulnerable and willing to share. Can’t wait for the next 2 episodes!!

  • BEWARE!! Illegal and dangerous advice

This host, a self proclaimed relationship professional, advocates and encourages secret relationship relationships between minor children and other adults, without the consent of the legal guardians of those children. This is illegal in many jurisdiction, and a dangerously scary idea in all circumstances. The host should be ashamed of themselves for advocating for this behavior.

  • I wish my mom listened to this

As an estranged adult child, I wish my mom listened to a podcast like this. I keep listening, hoping and praying that this message makes its way to her someday. If you are a parent listening to this PLEASE, I beg you, put in the work that Dr. Janet outlines here. This is solid advice. It’s not too difficult or too late. We want our parents in our lives. Dr. Janet - thank you for this podcast. It’s valuable to both sides of an estranged relationship.

  • Your view on estrangement

I truly love listening to you, you speak so much truth and your strategies regarding estrangement are spot on.

My son has been estranged for over 12 months but recently we have met in a park with my 2 grandsons who are nearly 4 and 12 months.

My mantra is ‘stay in my lane’

The visits have been great, kids love me for sure. What my son thinks I’m not sure but another visit, this time to my house has been arranged for Sunday.

Bit by bit, gently and with kindness with no expectations things are ... more
