A thoughtful peek into the lesser-known, rarely discussed side of Christie’s work. Mark and Gray approach the Westmacott novels in their distinctive style, balancing reflection and insight with a light touch and flecks of humour.
A brilliant sister podcast to the Swinging Christies. I know nothing about the Westmacott novels and I’m grateful for the insights and the opportunity to learn about them. It points me towards novels I’d otherwise never have read. It’s a clear labour of love and I can’t wait for the Christie Time book release next year.
As an Agatha Christie superfan, I have loved the Westmacott novels since I first read them in high school, but it seems like no one else has read them! So I’m super excited for this deep dive into each of the novels with their expertise!!
This is an excellent addition to the AC stable of pods. Mark and Gray take a deep dive into Mary Westmacott and the result is brilliant: thought provoking, detailed, nuanced, wide ranging & expertly articulated… love it!!
Listened to intro last week, now listening to Giants Bread episode. So happy to have this in addition to Swinging Sixties and of course Kemper’s classic All About Agatha. Thank you!!

Episodes blend close-text analysis with biographical context, wartime and postwar politics, and meta commentary on publication history, identity, and reception. Hosts Mark Aldridge and Gray Robert Brown bring scholarly rigor, lively dialogue, and cross-pollination with Christie scholarship to illuminate themes of gender, fame, memory, and the boundaries between autobiography and fiction. The format tends to favor thoughtful interpretation, with occasional nods to broader Christie canon and related media projects, making it likely to appeal to serious readers, Christie... more
