  • Very soothing listen

I love this podcast and there’s one thing that bothers me that I feel compelled to say. I feel like Ben polices Ione’s “tangents” which honestly don’t even feel like tangents to me, they just feel like a natural way of telling a story. And he even does that to himself a little bit. This is actually a testament to how much I like the podcast that I want to hear more and every time he moves it along faster I wish he wouldn’t. Anyway love you both!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Listener Question: What Have You Had To "Unlearn"?
Q: What belief about creativity have you had to unlearn?
We unlearned the idea that creativity must be a lone, solitary act and that the best work comes from one person carrying all the weight; instead, collaboration, teams, and flexible approaches are essential to real, working creativity.
Listener Question: Chaos Agents vs Stabilisers?
Q: Hi Ben and Ione, who's the chaos agent in your relationship and who's the stabilizer? And has that ever flipped?
They describe themselves as alternating roles, with Ben tending toward chaos in day-to-day life and Ione offering steadiness; over time, they acknowledge both partners can embody either role depending on the situation, and that genuine balance comes from embracing both dynamics.
Listener Question: Should I Take My Art "Pro"?
Q: At what point did you know it was safe to bet on the art?
The hosts suggest that you don't need to go all in or quit your day job; instead, build momentum gradually with clear, achievable goals and maintain other responsibilities until art becomes a sustainable part of life.
Listener Question: The Songs You Couldn't Write?
Q: Is there anything you've never been able to put in a memoir or a painting?
They explore the discomfort of writing memoirs, the balance between sharing truth and avoiding preachiness, and how they approached the memoir's wrap-up to maintain honesty without appearing didactic or conclusive.
Listener Question: The Songs You Couldn't Write?
Q: Jasmine from Tennessee says, is there anything you never been able to write a song about?
Both acknowledge that there are subjects left untackled and that some topics feel too deeply personal or abstract to write about at certain life stages; they discuss the idea of exploring fictional or alter-ego narratives as a route to address difficult themes.
