Absolute fav! I listen to it at least once a year.
The small town intrigue keeps me coming back, and I do think it's worth a listen. However I'm personally not a fan of the voice acting, especially in season 2. It feels like the two new actresses are AI or text to speech and that just isnt for me. I think that's my issue - not much voice-acting so much as voice-robotically-reading-a-block-of-text. Lately I’ve had to spend a lot of time in the car, so I’ve taken up horror fiction podcasts. I found a big list of them, wrote them all down, folded them up, put them in a bag, shook it up, and, well, here we are - the first one I pulled was Weeping Cedars. The unironic obsession with gender/identity stuff is kind of cringe and feels like a political shoehorn in an audio drama that was supposed to be a horror mockumentary. Lee (the narrator) is very narcissistic and pretentious for someone that’s making a weekly documentary about something other than herself. she’s much more of a me-searcher than a researcher. The voice acting is pretty good though, and the production isn’t “over-produced” like mino beats whale stuff, so 2 stars.
