  • This was a hard listen

The first episode and initial focus on how people’s beliefs about covid and trust in the medical system differ so much was interesting but it turned into a podcast about family trauma that was hard to get through. I felt for the family, but I didn’t feel like I was learning anything new from listening and couldn’t finish all four episodes.

You can’t listen to the whole thing without subscribing. It’s a shame the NYT operates like this. They have so much to offer the public that people will never get to enjoy.

  • A cocoon & a trap

This story captures so much of the complexity of family & our times, it really speaks to me. I have tremendous admiration for how Rachel owns her story & is so fearless in sharing. It is so hard how weirdly political a virus became.

  • Worth your time (spoilers)

Stayed up late and listened to the first two episodes, then got up early to listen to the third. This family is much like my own, and, like many of the women in my family, Rachel is a survivor. In more ways than one.

The negative reviews whining that the podcast is liberal propaganda have me chuckling and shaking my head, since Rachel is alive and her brother and father aren’t. Ignorance is deadly. Period.
