Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

If you can ship anything, you shouldn't ship everything. With Pranay Prakash, engineering leader at Vercel
Q: How do you manage the pace of AI tooling changes and avoid burnout while staying on top of new developments?
Focus on fundamentals like developer experience and product-minded thinking; accept that you will need to relearn, but the basics of taste, value to the user, and how you build for the long term remain constant.
If you can ship anything, you shouldn't ship everything. With Pranay Prakash, engineering leader at Vercel
Q: What is the thing that you think most engineering leaders are not fully grasping yet?
The key idea is that software is easy to write now, so the real bottleneck is deciding what not to ship and maintaining taste and DX as the organization scales, rather than simply pushing more code.
We thought we were AI native. We weren't. A conversation with Vinay Perneti, VP of Eng at Augment Code
Q: What changes did you make to your code review process to accommodate heavy agent involvement?
We introduced a deep review to catch all bugs with agent-generated code, followed by an intent review where humans assess the evolving PRs to ensure shared understanding and appropriate human oversight.
We thought we were AI native. We weren't. A conversation with Vinay Perneti, VP of Eng at Augment Code
Q: How do you define being AI native in practice beyond a buzzword?
AI native is about having a workflow where agents run on events and triggers, with a system that knows when to pull in humans and when to operate independently, supported by a platform that keeps the whole ecosystem understandable and adjustable.
