  • The one morning newscast to listen to

I’ve tried lots of different daily news podcasts and none of them compare to JJL and Wake Up Call. Many of them simply read the news and while you get a flavor for the news of the day, it’s often just the headlines. I love that JJL injects personality w/o obvious bias into the news and asks the questions the average person might ask as well. Laila Muhammad is also great when she fills in. This is the only news podcast that brings in reporters and experts from other news organizations, gettin... more

  • High speed reporting

Absolutely love the show but it went into overdrive playback speed today, again. Please fix. Impossible to listen to at this speed and get anything but annoyance out of it.

Love it! Listening from Hawaiian BUTT !!

It is podcasting way too fast . No way to slow down. It plays at extreme speed. Can’t understand a thing that’s being said, and this happens a lot. Who’s recording it to podcast???

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Uncovered 9/11 Records
Q: Could you tell us about the special performance you're doing to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in New York?
Ondrosik explains he will perform Superman between the two light beams at Ground Zero to honor the heroes and victims, and he will also participate in a remembrance event with firefighters on Staten Island, emphasizing the emotional responsibility of using music to commemorate the tragedy.
Democrats’ Ideological Split
Q: OK, so Steve, I have a question for you. If they're so unlikely or they have such a hard roe de ho, why are they winning the primaries? Is it because you get the passionate people who come out? Or what is it?
Yes, it's a combination of factors: a more energized primary electorate driven by ideology, a larger role for passionate voters, and a political environment where reaction to political figures fuels turnout and drives liberals to the fore in some races.
Big Bear Bald Eagle Jackie Has Died
Q: What is the process now to memorialize Jackie in the California legislature?
The senator explains that his staff is drafting the resolution language, coordinating with colleagues representing the Big Bear area, and aiming to fast-track the bill before the end of August, with a goal of recognizing September 4th as California Wildlife Day in remembrance of Jackie.
Wildfire Recovery Initiative
Q: Tell us what the smoke remediation looks like when that is actually done.
Anji Chung explains that the process is a specialized environmental cleanup using targeted cleaning solutions, HEPA equipment, and protective gear to safely remove contaminants from homes and belongings, with timelines typically ranging three to five days depending on the size and contents of the home.
Dr. Fauci Back on the Hot Seat
Q: What do the newly released diaries suggest about Fauci's relationships and public image?
Portnoy suggests the diaries depict Fauci as someone who engaged with media and Washington insiders, which may reflect his public image and the pressures of the spotlight, though there may not be many “aha” moments beyond confirmation of established perceptions.
