  • Old format was 5/5

4/5 stars only because I really enjoyed the older format. The convos were longer and more in depth and having both Brianna and Jared made it very well rounded…they had excellent energy together! Honestly, I also thought the old theme music was better and catchier.

  • Why move the podcast?

I love the podcast and have picked up books that I normally wouldn’t after listening. I also think Jerrod and Breanna do a fantastic job as hosts. However, I'm thoroughly annoyed that full episodes of the podcast have moved over to the BOTM app. I subscribe to a lot of podcasts and I think it’s ridiculous to expect me to go to another app to listen to a single podcast. I usually listen to podcasts while driving and the podcast app syncs with my car making it easy for me to navigate, obviously th... more

  • Move to app is obnoxious

I’ve been enjoying this podcast since it started but probably won’t listen anymore now that it has moved to the BOTM app. I’m a member and have access but a separate app for a single podcast is super inconvenient and I’m baffled why this was done. No one is going to get a book subscription just to listen to a podcast, so this seems like a much better way to piss off existing members than to get new ones.

  • Pushing their app

Why is botm pushing their app so much? Some of us don’t want another app and it’s such a bummer they are removing all the club features unless you download the app :( why would they only make a preview of a podcast available? Not worth it to follow.

Love the content, wish they would just stop pushing the app and make it available on their website and Apple podcasts

  • Good Content - Need More Professional Hosts

I love hearing the authors perspectives, the content is great, but the hosts could be more articulate. The laughter, at things that aren’t funny, is very distracting.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Marisa Kashino on the book she can't believe no one wrote before.
Q: What does it mean to her to have this dream home?
It really is sort of this last piece of the puzzle for Margo, who comes from humble beginnings and wants to complete her picture-perfect life with a dream home.
Marisa Kashino on the book she can't believe no one wrote before.
Q: What was that initial seed of inspiration that got you onto this idea?
I love thrillers and I knew a lot about real estate, so setting a book within a competitive house context seemed fun and relatable given the millennial struggle with home ownership.
Marisa Kashino on the book she can't believe no one wrote before.
Q: What instigated your decision to transition from a journalist to a novelist?
I really missed the day-to-day writing myself in a way I did not anticipate, so I took a novel writing class and discovered I loved writing fiction.
Marisa Kashino on the book she can't believe no one wrote before.
Q: What is your wildest real estate hot take?
I think that old is always better. I think when you tear something down, the neighborhood loses something.
Marisa Kashino on the book she can't believe no one wrote before.
Q: What initially drew you as a journalist to writing and researching about these topics?
I sort of fell into it by accident. I covered real estate mostly at a magazine called Washingtonian Magazine, and I ascended into the real estate editor role just because that was the opening.
