Made it halfway through season 2 and gave up. Too confusing and too much negativity. I couldn’t hold on to the storyline. Stressful. Great portrayal of a char with mental health issues though.
Updates: Came back to try and finish. 8 episodes left and quit again. Just too much extremeisms. I really want to like this and understand more, but I just can’t get there with the over done emotions and acting. Causes anxiety. Even the ads for other podcasts, the girl sounds manic. Can’t do it. Sorry.

Quite a good long-story-arc fantasy/science fiction podcast. In a modern nation very much like our own, how badly will the most powerful tech company abuse the small minority of magic-users for the sake of profits? Particularly if the government's attitude towards magic-users is just like our own government's attitude towards immigrants. Tune in to find out...
You'll enjoy well-fleshed out characters (that you will come to care about), and some excellent sound effects.
I really love it, it’s so good! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
the first season was more of a 4-star experience for me, but season 2 & 3 had such a leap in production quality, and it really dove into the characters and their relationships in a very cool way.
so, so queer. I don't think I've seen such a variety of queerness in one audiodrama before, it was so refreshing! especially having non-monogamous rep, always appreciate that as a relationship anarchist myself!!
the voice acting is generally quite good, a few are alright but there's so much heart in h... more
Set in a world where magic users are discriminated against; the mix of magic and technology, how industry affects society's perceptions, as well as different uses for magic are interesting. The plot involves characters fighting against an oppressive capitalist institution. Much of the show is dedicated to the mental health (self-doubt, anxiety, trauma from abuse) of the main character - other voices are drowned out by his intrusive thoughts, which is as distracting to the listener as it is to th... more
I'm about halfway through the first season, having come to the show quite late, and I am hooked!! I'm writing this while waiting for my headphones to charge so I can keep going.
While the premise steps outside of the world we know today, the world itself is disturbingly real. The decisions and debates people are facing, discrimination, loneliness, and figuring out how to cope, it all hits solidly home. Everything is just comfortable enough to draw me in, and just uncomfortable enough to make me... more

Much of the show is dedicated to the mental health of the main character - other voices are drowned out by his intrusive thoughts, which is as distracting to the listener as it is to the main character; this made following parts of the plot purposefully frustrating - and this leads to a cathartic scene lat... more
I love every character (even when I shouldn't), I feel every emotion (usually all in the same episode), & I'm pretty sure VALENCE does that by design... & there's something to be said for media that makes you reflect on yourself & how to be a better person. Please don't let this show pass you by, because once you start, you'll catch up in no time !!!

I feel like the rating 3.5 would be perfect for this podcast, but alas, podchaser won't allow for that. for a second there I wanted to go with 3, but nah, that wouldn't be fair to the podcast.
valence has its flaws, especially early on in season one. the writing can be a bit stiff at times and I think the podcast struggled a bit with the "show, not tell" rule at first, so some things could come off as a bit too on the nose and unnatural. but it's not that surprising, since the creator adapted va... more
An Immersive listen, great storyline, was defiantly worth my time.
I love this podcast so much, if you like queer found families you'll be right at home here. Reminds me of a mix between the Shadowrun world and the Penumbra Podcast.
The magic system is really cool
An accurate depiction of mental illness that isn’t a default indicator of villainy? Well developed characters of various races, sexualities, and gender identities? Just the representation is enough to guarantee three stars. There is an amazing concept which became a brilliant plot, that earned this five stars. I’d give six if I could for the world building, if I could
