I've been to vipassana numerous times. It is completely voluntary and by donation. There is no coercion or rites and rituals. All they ask us that you challenge yourself slightly by simply doing tge simple meditation technique. It is explicit in its intake forms that you do not come if you have mental illness challenges or are trying to treat yourself with meditation fir mental illness or addiction.

Years. My first retreat was at 18 years old at a goenka centre. It is always made clear that these are run by volunteers, not mental health professionals and you sign a waiver with regard to your mental health. I’ve found that to be true at all the other vipassana and meditation centres of all hues… you are responsible
