Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Brief: Corpus Christi’s Water Future w/ DeeAnna Heavilin
Q: The fair water amendment, which is the worst-named proposition ever.
Heavilin opposes Proposition B, arguing it could remove the industrial surcharge that funds water projects without supplying additional water, and may raise legal and budget questions.
The Brief: Corpus Christi’s Water Future w/ DeeAnna Heavilin
Q: Why is the Inner Harbor, in your opinion, the most viable project?
Heavilin says the project has been studied, permitted, and supported with state funding, and would provide needed capacity and backup treatment while remaining publicly owned.
The Brief: Prop B, Water Policy & Corpus Christi’s Future w/ Bob Paulison
Q: What is the one thing you want listeners to take away as they vote?
That this is bad policy because it deprives the city of adaptive authority over drought response, will likely increase water bills for all customers, and should be carefully evaluated against the city's ability to manage water projects and respond to evolving drought conditions.
The Brief: Prop B, Water Policy & Corpus Christi’s Future w/ Bob Paulison
Q: So, with that, what is it really about, Bob?
It's about clarifying what Prop B changes: it mainly targets industry by altering how drought-related costs are allocated, but in practice it shifts control away from the city council to enforce certain drought-related costs automatically, which many fear reduces local policy flexibility and could raise bills.
"Creating Workforce Readiness" | Amanda Garcia - Goodwill
Q: What upcoming initiatives should listeners know about to engage with Goodwill?
Listeners should look for the Work the Runway event and Earth Month drives, along with opportunities to host donation drives and participate in e-waste collection campaigns.
