  • Mistakenly mention wrong book title/author

In the repeat episode on December 15, they mentioned a book supposedly called “happily ever after“ by Candace Bergen. There is no such book. I think they were referring to the book by Elizabeth Beller called “Once Upon a Time.”

  • It gets better!

Shaky start with the first few episodes as the limits of the hosts own knowledge of their subject and their very specific generational cultural references (the Olsen Twins?) strike a listener who doesn’t share them as bafflingly inconsequential, BUT the guests are mostly really good - geniunely well-informed, serious journalists and historians. By the time George is hosting solo (and has more research under his belt) the episodes are much more satisfying and contain real insights and illuminatio... more

  • Honestly? I love it

I came here from George’s other podcast Striaghtiolab, expecting this to be more comedy. It’s not but that’s okay - it’s great!! I’ve been gorging on this. They have knowledgeable legitimate guests and the hosts strike a good balance of informed but casual. It’s not a daunting research podcast because these topics have been exhausted anyways. This still manages to be fresh and it’s very approachable because they are fascinated themselves. I also really like that they cover all of the various Ken... more

  • Some good stuff here

Don’t be out off by the giddiness of the first episode, things do settle down and there’s some interesting insights into the Kennedys. There’s been somd changes with hosts etc which I don’t mind, but I do object to the snide remarks about current politicians, Trump etc, it’s boring, it distracts from the subject for me. Stick with the Kennedys dynasty, they’re fascinating.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Kennedy Compound
Q: Can you tell us about Eugenia Fortes?
Eugenia Fortes was a Cape Verdean cook who had significant ties to the community and fought to keep a local beach public, showing her impact beyond the Kennedy narrative.
The Kennedy Compound
Q: How did you gain access to the Kennedys themselves?
I spoke first with Carrie Kennedy, who was open and helped introduce me to other family members, despite initial hesitation from the family.
The Kennedy Compound
Q: What was it like your first time going to the Kennedy Compound?
The first visit was in a gray November, revealing a suburban-looking street with no commercial activity, leading to an intrinsic curiosity about the local community.
The Kennedy Compound
Q: Can you describe what the Kennedy Compound looks like and what its origin story is?
The Kennedy Compound does not match typical expectations of a compound, consisting of three houses on a short street in Hyannisport, mostly purchased by the family over time.
The Kennedy Compound
Q: What about the Kennedy Compound sparked your interest and why choose that as the focus of a book?
The Kennedy Compound always seemed like a mysterious place that came up in stories about the Kennedys. The long tail of interest and its role in family dynamics drew me to tell the story through this specific location.
