  • very weak episode about sake

Mr Kassir made a lot of mistakes and simply forgot about yeast role and variety. À missed opportunity to talk seriously about nihonshu.

  • I was transported back to Lisbon

The Wines of Lisbon podcast with Janina and Libby was so informative and they set the scene of the beautiful landscapes and wines this region can offer.

The way they described each wine in so much depth, so passionately, had me hooked. Needless to say, I’ve already added three of them to my must-buy list.

I highly recommend listening to Janina’s podcasts. I can’t wait to listen to the next one))

  • The best wine podcast, and a fantastic one independent of the topic!

Ok, what do you want from a wine podcast? TLDR: whatever it may be, you will find it in Eat Sleep Wine Repeat.

Most wine podcasts are informative. In fact, the main driver of the topic of wine is to educate. The world of wine is so wide and deep that one could talk endlessly about it. But that’s the problem — some wine podcasts become a dragging drone of facts. Not Janina.

For sure, she will educate you. You will learn all the facets of wine. Not just the characteristics of specific win... more

Talking Points

Ep 254 - Brunello di Montalcino Wine: Terroir, Clones & Aging Potential | Italian Wine Education with Ian D’Agata
Q: Could you explain why Brunello di Montalcino is required to be 100% Sangiovese and how this influences its aging and flavor profile?
Brunello is legally 100% Sangiovese, which gives it a pure, focused expression of the grape's tannin, acidity, and aroma. Combined with Montalcino's terroir and a structured aging regime, this results in wines that age gracefully for decades, developing complex tertiary notes while maintaining elegance and pronounced red fruit character over time.
Ep 254 - Brunello di Montalcino Wine: Terroir, Clones & Aging Potential | Italian Wine Education with Ian D’Agata
Q: So if more people were educated about Italian wine, which Italian grape variety do you think that they would reach for more often?
I think there's value in building recognition for grape varieties the way brands convey quality; when people recognize and trust a grape like Sangiovese in its Brunello or Chianti form, they'll feel more confident exploring related Italian varieties such as Schiava or Grignolino, which opens up a broader, more diverse Italian wine palate.
Ep 252 - Ungrafted Vines, Phylloxera & Old Vines: The Science of Wine Grafting with Jamie Goode
Q: What are the main differences between grafted and un-grafted vines in terms of longevity and wine quality?
Grafted vines have been the standard due to phylloxera risk and generally support long-term productive vineyards, while some un-grafted vines in certain regions survive due to favorable soils or climate, though longevity and quality can vary widely and depends on site and disease pressure.
Ep 252 - Ungrafted Vines, Phylloxera & Old Vines: The Science of Wine Grafting with Jamie Goode
Q: Can you tell us the story step-by-step of how phylloxera came to Europe?
Phylloxera arrived in Europe in the 1860s after American vines carrying the pest were imported, spreading rapidly and devastating vineyards until grafting onto American rootstocks provided a practical solution that saved the wine industry.
Ep 248 – Barolo vs Barbaresco: Nebbiolo, Terroir & Biotypes Explained with Ian D’Agata
Q: Do you feel there is a different attitude towards Nebbiolo in Barbaresco compared to Barolo?
Ian believes Barbaresco producers focus on making graceful wines, unlike Barolo producers who may aim for stronger, tannic characteristics.
