  • Happy 500th episode!

I’ve listening for about 5 years, since lockdown when I wanted to start my own nonprofit and had A LOT of thoughts about it, mostly about how I shouldn’t or couldn’t. In honour of your 500th episode, I wanted to say that after listening to ALL of your episodes and doing a few of your programmes, I’m bow the Founder and CEO of a very successful nonprofit in the UK, that has helped thousands of women and generated over half a million pounds in revenue and grant funding. Your latest episode ran esp... more

  • AMAZING INSIGHTS IN EVERY EPISODE

I spent my early adulthood in therapy identifying as an anxious, insecure person. That all changed when I encountered Kara’s teachings. I’ve been in her Feminist Self Help Society for four years, and am currently in her Socratic Coaching Method Certification program. Her tools have enabled me to transform my life. AND I still listen to this podcast regularly because she continues delivering amazing insights to the public with every episode. What a gift! Thank you, Kara.

  • Love this podcast

First it’s fun to say the name of this podcast. The biggest thing I’ve learned from Kara is the concept of being emotionally neutral and the need to work through your feelings until you are neutral BEFORE confronting or responding to someone when you’re upset. This has made a significant difference in my life! ❤️❤️

  • Taking back my brain

Kara has helped me take back my brain like no other self help work has. I now can see clearer how our sexist society has molded me to see my body as defective and my migraines as a further failure. My dependence on doctors and pills fks up my brain and gives my power away again. She is very inspiring.

501. Coaching Hotline: Using Social Media to Change Your Body Image & When Your Partner Shuts Down in Arguments
Q: Is it okay for me to go on a plus-size model's Instagram page for a few minutes to practice these thoughts?
Yes, it's a useful visual cue-based approach, but you should also practice these thoughts in other situations and with yourself in the mirror to generalize the thinking.
501. Coaching Hotline: Using Social Media to Change Your Body Image & When Your Partner Shuts Down in Arguments
Q: Do you see any problem with purposely engaging in actions I know result in my having positive thoughts and feelings every time my alarm goes off?
I think it's a great strategy to use intentional actions to prime your thoughts, and it's fine to combine this with other practices; just don't rely on it as the sole method and ensure you also practice those thoughts in other contexts.
503. Coaching Hotline: Sibling Rivalry & the Comparison Trap & When Your Child Has a Chronic Illness
Q: How should a parent think about their child's chronic illness to reduce rumination and anxiety when the issue is life-and-death?
The coach emphasizes that anxiety stems from the thought 'it's my job to protect' rather than the illness itself or life-and-death stakes. By accepting that some aspects are uncontrollable and reframing protection as a limit on control, the parent can reduce anxiety and focus on what is truly in their power.
503. Coaching Hotline: Sibling Rivalry & the Comparison Trap & When Your Child Has a Chronic Illness
Q: How can I stop my mind from treating my sister as a rival and stop the persistent comparison and resentment?
The coach reframes comparison as an evaluation, not an objective truth, highlighting that differences are natural and not a hierarchy of better or worse. By recognizing that thoughts create the feeling of rivalry, the caller can detach from the need for one sibling to be 'better' and instead appreciate each person's unique gifts, reducing resentment and anxiety.
497. Coaching Hotline: Managing Your Mind During PMS & Is Disappointment a Cop-Out?
Q: Hi Kara, I wanted to know your thoughts about PMS. Do you think this is normal or all in my head?
It's likely a mix of biological and cognitive factors, but the main tool is to observe thoughts and treat yourself with kindness regardless of physiology, because how you think about it largely shapes how you feel and respond.
