  • Life-Changing

I have been listening to this podcast since 2019. At that point in my life, I only had a high school diploma and was working a series of dead-end food service jobs. I had always been great and school growing up, but I had crippling anxiety, depression, and confidence issues that led me to dropping out of college and losing my spark.

Kara’s teachings were honestly the catalyst that helped me change my life. As of today, I have a masters degree and work at a mission-oriented nonprofit, which I a... more

  • Has gone downhill

Used to love this podcast. The advice used to feel more tangible, but it’s become reductionist. I get that our emotions are controlled by our thoughts, but sometimes simply “changing your thoughts” doesn’t make a very real problem go away. It’s just toxic positivity packaged differently.

  • This podcast changed how I relate to my own mind.

The thought work Kara teaches isn’t fluffy. It’s practical, honest, and sometimes uncomfortable in the best way. What sets her apart is that she doesn’t let us skip past why our thoughts are the way they are. She names it directly. Women are socialized to doubt themselves, shrink themselves, and make everyone else’s comfort more important than their own truth. That’s not a personal flaw. It’s conditioning. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it. That’s where the real work begins. Thank you Kara... more

  • Kara is in my head

I have listened to several episodes and Kara describes exactly how I feel. How did she know? I did not realize so many other women may feel this way. Right now, I am listening to the confidence compass skills and loving the episodes!

  • So great!

I discovered Kara’s podcast about a month ago and have been binge listening ever since. I often feel sad when an episode ends and cue up another one. My favorite episode so far has been “Borrow My Thoughts,” in which she shares how she changed her dating life by thinking, “Women my size have found love “ or her career by thinking, “Dumber people than me have succeeded in this area.” Since then, I find myself spontaneously coming up with useful reframes like, “I can handle doing tasks with subrou... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

479. Coaching Hotline: How to Say No When You Fear Being Rude & When You Can't Change Your Thoughts Yet
Q: How do you address the deeply embedded politeness conditioning that leads to unwanted attention or harassment, and the doubt about whether you're an asshole for saying no?
We shift the focus from a supposed obligation to be polite to honoring our own preferences and autonomy. The host argues that politeness is often just people-pleasing and that you don't owe anyone your compliance or explanations, regardless of whether gifts or attention feel benign or harmful. The solution is to recognize that you can say no for your own boundaries, reduce self-doubt by examining the underlying thoughts, and practice saying no until it becomes natural.
481. Coaching Hotline: Taking Too Long to Orgasm & Stress About Balancing Work, Kids, & Life
Q: How can I balance a demanding trial-lawyer schedule with two kids and self-care without believing I don't have enough time?
The host emphasizes that time pressure is largely a mental construct and invites the caller to reframe beliefs about time and efficiency, suggesting practical shifts like delegating, carpooling, and reassessing commitments, while focusing on thought work to reduce procrastination and guilt. She argues that changing beliefs about time will naturally improve productivity and self-care rather than simply trying to squeeze more hours into the day.
481. Coaching Hotline: Taking Too Long to Orgasm & Stress About Balancing Work, Kids, & Life
Q: I am having a sexual fling with a guy. Sex is amazing, but I can't orgasm with him because of my thoughts about needing to orgasm and concerns that taking too long will bore or tire him.
The host reframes the issue by challenging the belief that the partner's fatigue or boredom defines the moment, encourages slowing down and shifting the focus from 'performance' to mutual pleasure, and suggests viewing the act as a shared experience rather than a task. She also points to socialization around women's pleasure as secondary and offers practical cognitive shifts, plus the idea that pressure around orgasm often makes it harder to achieve, advocating for letting the process unfold.
477. Coaching Hotline: How to Deal with Fatigue & Which Thoughts to Work on First
Q: Hi Kara, I've been listening to the podcast since last fall. I'm having trouble because usually there's the original thought, which I know I can choose better, but then there's the bigger scarier thought behind that first thought. Is it better to focus on the original model, or should we go to the deeper pain?
Focus on the first thought and the situational ones first; working on those creates quicker payoffs and builds the habit of changing thoughts, which then helps shift bigger, deeper patterns over time.
474. Want a Better Financial Life? Don't Marry a Loser: A Conversation with Vivian Tu
Q: What does it mean to maximize value for money beyond price tagging?
It means focusing on spending that improves life quality, security, and the ability to achieve long-term goals, rather than simply accumulating possessions or chasing status symbols.
