Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Beth Reclaimed Her Health, Her Voice, and Her Joy: A Thyroid Healing Story - Ep. 86
Q: What tools or strategies have helped you the most on this journey?
She emphasizes self-awareness and bodily awareness from being a vocalist, the elimination-and-reintroduction approach to foods, and using a structured Kickstart program to reset her eating pattern. She also mentions the importance of grace, patience, and setting boundaries.
How Beth Reclaimed Her Health, Her Voice, and Her Joy: A Thyroid Healing Story - Ep. 86
Q: Can you walk us through your thyroid journey and diagnosis?
Beth explains that she had been dealing with low energy and weight changes for years, and after a significant decline post-COVID, she received a thyroid diagnosis. The diagnosis helped clarify that the body's thyroid function, sleep, and energy were interconnected, and she began a comprehensive approach including nutrition changes, exercise, and medical management to regain balance.
What Your Thyroid Test Results Really Mean (Replay with Mary Shomon) - Ep. 88
Q: How often should thyroid labs be checked, especially during pregnancy or when adjusting medication?
Frequency should be higher when first diagnosed or adjusting meds (every 3-4 weeks until stable), with more frequent monitoring during pregnancy and the postpartum period; once stable, some patients may benefit from more than yearly checks, often twice a year.
What Your Thyroid Test Results Really Mean (Replay with Mary Shomon) - Ep. 88
Q: Why is antibody testing important in hypothyroidism, and how can it change management?
Antibody testing helps identify Hashimoto's as the underlying autoimmune driver, which can inform dietary changes, selenium supplementation, and potential risk for other autoimmunity; recognizing Hashimoto's often leads to personalized lifestyle strategies beyond standard thyroid hormone replacement.
What Your Thyroid Test Results Really Mean (Replay with Mary Shomon) - Ep. 88
Q: What do thyroid tests really mean beyond the basic TSH, and how should patients approach interpreting them with their doctors?
The host explains that TSH only hints at pituitary signaling and not the actual circulating thyroid hormones, so a complete picture includes free T4 and free T3; optimal ranges often differ from official reference ranges, and patients should aim for mid-range free T4 and T3 values while considering their symptoms.
