  • Album Oriented Music

Okay... my review. It's going to be kinda long so bear with me.

The album format. For quite a while now, I've held the belief that with regard to music, albums are the pinnacle of the artform. An album

represents a snapshot in time of what a band is experiencing creatively. An album has to be taken as a whole in order to understand what

the band/artist stands for at that moment. One great song can skew perception, it's hard to fake 10-12 songs... (unless of course you're

    Milli Vanilli).

  • Best Record Review Podcast

Theses guys have the absolute best record/vinyl review show I’ve heard. They provide in depth history and insights about the how the record was produced, sequenced, performed, you name it. The bottom line is that you will end up listening to records you may have never considered listening to. And they don’t take themselves too seriously.

  • For lovers of the album format

I’ve been listening my way through this series picking out the albums I’m already familiar with. I don’t always agree with their ratings or analysis but that’s alright as they don’t always agree with each other. Mostly I find the ratings and analysis fair. It’s a fun listen to go through records with folks who are enthusiastic and really appreciate the music and back history of the album. I’m looking forward to having them introduce me to new “old” music.

    Keep it up gents.

SE5, EP 11: The Youngbloods - The Youngbloods
Q: Doug, why did you choose this album from 1967?
Part of it is I want people to hear this band. I think they've been smothered by their single, and there's a lot about this band that you can't get an idea of from that single.
SE 5, EP 3: Bad Company - Bad Company
Q: What would Brian Eno have done with this album?
I think the guitars would have been a lot less crunchy.
SE 5, EP 3: Bad Company - Bad Company
Q: What is your girlfriend wearing if you're driving with this album in the 1970s?
Cut-offs and a halter top or a bikini top, even though she doesn't need to.
SE 5, EP 2: The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow
Q: Why is the album significant?
It is considered one of the first rock operas, combining a continuous story with thematic music that was not just a collection of songs.
SE 5, EP 2: The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow
Q: What connection does this album have to The Rolling Stones?
The Pretty Things were often compared to The Rolling Stones due to their wild behavior and bluesy beginnings, with Phil May having a past with Mick Jagger.
