  • Incredible resource for anyone who has a dog

I found this podcast shortly after bringing home my dog. It has been a game changer for me, my dog and our relationship. And the more I listened, the more I realized that I wanted to pursue dog training as a career. Thank you Millie and Andreia.

  • literally changed my life and me

I found this podcast by chance and it was quite literally one of the most life changing things in my life. Millie and Andreia are one of very few people who actually are looking at the "Why?" WHY are our dogs struggling, WHY is this problem happening. In life in general, until you understand WHY something happens, you can't truly resolve the issue. First why and then how, based on our dog's psychology, based on how they work, not how we wish them to work. Also both of them are really funny. 1000... more

  • Come here for the basics!

This podcast has been an incredible resource to support my relationship and training with my dog. The information is laid out clearly with context and rationale. I wish I would have found this resource when I fostered (now adopted) my dog. I have worked with a balanced trainer and this is very complementary to reinforce the basics.

  • So many ah-ha moments!

I wish I came across this earlier! Millie and Andreia explain dog behaviour that makes you understand the why behind the concepts. I feel so much more informed to take best care of my dogs (and also embarrassed for all the things I did with my dogs that I could have done better!)

  • Extremely helpful

This podcast has been so helpful to me in so many ways. I have two dogs with very different personalities and this podcast has helped me to identify what I need to do to communicate more effectively with them and that they need different things from me. I appreciate the advice given on dog parks, dog walks, pack placement, the use of crates, and how to watch my dogs for their cues and to be more intuitive so I know how to respond. This has helped me to be more sensitive to the way they see th... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Client Consultation: Managing Separation Anxiety & Crate Training
Q: What was the difference between how she was at the board and train and at home?
The trainer explains that the difference stems from the various ways in which Maya is handled outside of the crate, and how boundaries are set when she is home compared to training.
Pack Talk: Helping Dogs Cope with Moves, Crate Training, and Anxiety
Q: How do I set up a situation where my dog prefers to be on the place instead of in the crate?
Let your dog use their crate as a coping mechanism without pushing them. Focus on developing place skills in ways that suit their preferences, and allow them to choose their comfort zone. If they're choosing the crate because it provides safety, that's okay for now. Just ensure their place skills continue to develop over time.
Answering Your Dog Training Questions Live
Q: Is it fair to a guest dog to have different rules in my home compared to their home?
Yes, it's okay to have different rules for guest dogs, and often they should have more structure than your personal dog.
Answering Your Dog Training Questions Live
Q: How can I expect place skills to be transferable between different settings?
Place skills can struggle to transfer to new environments due to distractions; it's common and should be practiced more in various contexts to ensure understanding.
Answering Your Dog Training Questions Live
Q: What can I do about my seven month old puppy whining at me? She wants to go outside and play all the time.
To manage a seven month old puppy's whining, you should start with teaching the puppy calmness through place training and tethering, encouraging them to learn that not every moment is exciting.
