What’s the deal with mentors? What’s their role? Who needs one? How do we find someone who’s a good fit? Can you be one? Perhaps ‘being’ a mentor has as many benefits, as ‘having’ a mentor? Apart from mentors, Bobby, Tiff and I also explored learning... more

  • Impressive

Really good content. I just listened to today’s episode (#2103). If this is what we get when the guest isn’t available then more guests should drop out! Sensible, inspiring and a great call to action. No issues at all with the frank, direct style of delivery. Keep up the good work.

  • Daily motivational brilliance!

I’ve listened to enough of your podcasts to know you don’t consider yourself a motivational speaker, but you still deliver.

I love your insight, your warmth, your humour and the fact that they aren’t afraid to tell it as it is! I love the daily opportunity for a reality check and the frequent reminders to get out of my own way. I can’t say I’ve followed your advice to the letter, but Im getting better

Thanks for keeping me company during many hours of training

  • Brilliant

Your guest spot on Andrew May’s PI podcast completely resonated with me. Have listened to a couple of your other podcasts, I’m hooked. How we look at aging, retirement, age appropriate, the commentary around starting a PhD at 55, etc are all culturally driven narrative, which reflects also in how we treat our aged population. I’m hooked, your podcast is what I have been looking for, it is entertaining and motivating, and I look forward to seeing the completed thesis. Thanks

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#2177 Wisdom vs. Intelligence - Prof. Barry Schwartz
Q: What role does identity and diversity play in decision making, according to your work?
Identity amplifies how we view options; as diversity increases, decisions become more meaningful reflections of who we are, which increases the stakes of everyday choices and invites more openness to other perspectives.
#2177 Wisdom vs. Intelligence - Prof. Barry Schwartz
Q: Tell us about the dominant view of rationality and how your new book Choose Wisely reframes it.
Rationality isn't just about plugging numbers into a formula; people use quick intuition and slower deliberate thought, and life often demands judgment beyond rigid calculations, so the book argues for valuing practical wisdom over narrow rational models.
#2173 Navigating New Relationships - Tiff and Scotty
Q: What was your thinking when you first started considering a relationship with each other, given your initial reluctance?
Tiff explains that she was cautious due to past hurt but gradually opened up as they built safe, low-pressure interactions and recognized genuine compatibility. Scott adds that he felt drawn by her qualities and decided to be mindful and respectful, moving at a pace that allowed trust to grow.
#2171 A Life Well Lived - Chris Rhyss Edwards
Q: Can AI ever replace therapists or deep human connection?
AI cannot replace the deep, embodied, human interaction that therapy and close relationships provide; it can act as a safe sounding board and augment coaching but requires careful governance to avoid dependency or misinformation.
#2171 A Life Well Lived - Chris Rhyss Edwards
Q: What surprising questions did you encounter in your research?
The most basic human needs and everyday concerns turned out to be the most relevant—issues like sexual health, relationships, and everyday stress—as opposed to only existential topics, illustrating AI's applicability to common human experiences.
