Really great discussion and they offer various recommendations for different categories (low budget to more expensive, best use, etc). I WISH they’d do an episode on outerwear/exercise gear that is the best in having less chemicals. They did a camping one, but I’d like to know which running shorts are organic or low in PFAS, etc.
I enjoyed this. Nicely done and approachable. I thought it was a shame you didn’t go into left handed blades a bit, having raised it. Does my W/c recommended Chefs Choice sharpener put a right handed edge on m knives?? I’d never stopped to consider that. I’m going to have to discuss it with my therapists before morning. Are you there?
I think this show is not evolving with global times in terms of consumerism. In countless episodes, advise is given to “upgrade” to new, flashy things or not even chose more sustainable, less- waste options. For instance, in a composting episode they touted an electronic composter which I feel is just counterproductive to what composting is all about. Their period products episode was also a disappointment. This show upholds very American, highly consumerist behaviours. I had high hopes for thi... more
I expected more from a NYTimes podcast, but this has been disappointing. For example, in an episode about cleaning, the hosts addressed cleaning up after your pets. Their answers were not researched, not based on expert feedback and they seemed to just repeat whatever antidote they found online. No matter how minor the issue may seem, a responsible journalist would interview experts (pet owners, rescuers, scientists who design household cleaners, etc). The show needs better producers and hosts.
Useful info but please, cut the fluff. Example — episode on tools for aging family members first 9 mins were ads and low info chatter.
