I'm on my 4th rewatch and found this podcast and thought cool this will be fun. While the discussion about the episodes are good it often becomes overshadowed by the host constantly bringing in racism at times more than the actual topic. I get it, I realize everything wrong in the world is "whitey's" fault. At times it seems like there is more of an agenda here than entertainment of a great show.
I’ve watched The Wire many times and even for me it’s too many spoilers (many from Van Latha ). Listening to “The Cost” and not only does Van feel the need to over explain an obvious point about about character death’s, but the dude goes on to give needless examples involving 2 major deaths in 2 of the other biggest shows in TV history, needlessly spoiling up to 3 potential series in a since segment of an episode. My god, Van. Shame on you brother, SHAME. SMFH.
Season 1 was covered very well. Episodes were actually discussed in full. Starting with season 2 and moreso in season 3 the discussions weren’t as episode-centric as they could have been. Crucial events were sometimes glossed over and the episode discussions weren’t as in depth as they should have been. For me season 3 went off the rails more than a few times in the face of unnecessary political discussions and other soap box diatribes nowhere near related to the show. Too much veering off topic... more
If you haven't watched this 20yo show before, then sure beware of occasional "spoilers". I watched the wire once and am listening to the pod alongside this time. Each host has insightful points (Van in particular) and Jemele's trivia is fun. Both do get a bit excited and rambling, but overall they do a good job of unpacking each TW episode while keeping it entertaining. The subject matter can get dark and recaps pods can be dry, but this one keeps it light when they can and fun.
I recently found this podcast and I am truly happy I have. The analysis of each episode and character breakdown is top notch. The perspective I have for people living in these situations in real life has changed based on their insight. I am thankful for the education you are giving me on both the show and real life.
