  • Fun listen

I look forward to the pod each Thursday morning. Good cycling and non cycling discussions, some banter, emphasis on affordable bikes rather than just super bikes (but some super bike talk as well) and generally a good time. Hoping they continue to produce fun and informative pods for years to come. Thanks Emily, Jimmi, Francis and Benny!

  • Please ditch Jimmi

I could watch - or listen to this if it weren’t for ‘Jimmi’.

His supposedly edgy contrarian views are tiresome, his teenage dress sense and habit of constantly glancing at the camera is irritating. Sorry.

  • The GOAT of bike/cycling podcasts

The best podcast if you are even slightly interested in bikes. It’s great that Francis, Jimmy, (producer) Emily and the guests always seem to be having tons of fun. There’s a bit of news, reader mail and all that, but really what makes it great is the superb vibes (sorry Jimmy!).

  • It’s called clipless

It’s called clipless because back before you kids were born we rode with these things called toe clips that held our feet on the pedals (see Sean Kelly). When look invented their pedal system voila- we could ride… clipless!

  • Great podcast, easy to listen to and covers all topics

Love the podcast. It’s always a good listen and motivates me (despite some of Jimmy’s best efforts) to just enjoy getting out. Though hearing Francis’ advice on medial issues from episode 102 whilst recovering from a broken elbow after coming off my bike - definitely get medically checked out!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 129: MAAP Fires Shots at Assos + An Epic Bike Event Fail ft. Mechanic Nic
Q: What are the practical considerations when choosing handlebars and stems for a 'bike for life' concept?
He notes that handlebars and stems should be two separate parts, allowing for spacers and reach adjustments; many riders start with cheaper two-piece setups to test feel, then upgrade gradually as comfort solidifies, rather than committing to a single integrated system too early.
Ep 129: MAAP Fires Shots at Assos + An Epic Bike Event Fail ft. Mechanic Nic
Q: How does Nic approach custom bike frames and fit in, and is there leeway after a build is made?
Nic explains that a bike fit helps but isn't always essential; starting from a comfortable bike and a capable builder allows for adjustments in head tube length, reach, and cockpit setup over time. He advocates building with a two-piece cockpit initially and then swapping components to fine-tune the fit before settling on the final setup.
Ep 110: Can This New Groupset Save Campagnolo? + Specialized Has Lost Its Mind
Q: What are tips for training more effectively in winter?
Focus on managing expectations and consider a mix of activities during winter. Use winter as an opportunity to maintain fitness rather than aiming for specific performance metrics.
Ep 106: A Questionable Canyon, Pog’s Hour Record? + Has Colnago Gone Too?
Q: What really makes steel or metal bikes generally better in your opinion?
Steel bikes are incredibly durable, malleable, and can last for decades if taken care of, potentially outlasting carbon bikes which might become obsolete or fail for other reasons.
Ep 101: There's a Huge Problem at Giant + Has Trek Gone Too Far?
Q: Am I still a cyclist if I do all my proper training indoors on my trainer?
Yes, if you ride a bike and have the knowledge to do so, you're definitely a cyclist.
