  • Informative and well executed

I listened to the most recent episode regarding NFL preview. Cade Massey did an outstanding job leading the discussion. Many podcasts I listen to the host tends to babble on rather than commenting and getting to the point. Massey does a great job of not doing that. You can tell their information is well researched and backed by strong analytics.

Behavioral Biases and Data Models Shape NFL Draft Strategy
Q: Professor Thaler, why is the NFL draft a worthwhile subject for study when the questions you can answer apply to many businesses?
Because it provides a clear, observable arena where decision-makers face uncertainty, risk, and strategic trade-offs, allowing us to study how people update beliefs and how charts and priors influence decisions under real constraints.
From Masters Victory to Motion Data: Golf’s Analytical Evolution
Q: What was the original impetus for Sportsbox and how has the technology evolved since its inception?
The founders built a mobile-friendly motion-capture solution that yields 3D swing data comparable to lab-based systems, enabling coaches and players to diagnose swing issues without extensive lab setup and to apply the data to equipment fitting and performance improvements.
The Many Meanings of Baseball: History, Data, and Fan Experience
Q: How has Moneyball evolved, and what is new versus traditional in how we count and understand baseball today?
Henkin notes that while the obsession with large numbers and statistical reasoning is not new—dating back to Chadwick and the box score—the way in-game strategy uses these insights has changed. Fans have become more like statisticians and general managers, and video capture technologies have transformed how we visualize and apply data to the game.
Analytics, Rule Changes, and Baseball’s Revival
Q: Do you think current data practices risk overwhelming managers in real-time decision making?
Epstein and the hosts agree that while data is essential, there needs to be a balance to avoid overloading managers with information, preserving intuitive decision-making in the dugout.
Analytics, Rule Changes, and Baseball’s Revival
Q: What is the most impactful analytics-driven change you implemented, and why did it work?
The ISOP over K metric and related college-to-projections provided a pragmatic, evidence-based way to select players who would perform at the highest levels, leading to one of the best drafting outcomes of the decade.
