  • I've listened to a few of these and have loved them all to date. The focus appears to be on EV, battery, eMobility, etc. and emphasis on how leaders have started up companies in that space, so I would love to hear more content around other cleantech challenges (example: hydrogen as fuel source, RNG) as well as how big corporations are tackling these challenges, but if you're primarily looking for content in the electrification space, this is a fantastic podcast for that.

  • A must for anyone who wants to engage in Cleantech

These podcasts offer real life learning experiences for anyone engaged in startups, but most applicable to the “Clean-space” sector. I particularly like that David’s guests, all successful leaders, share their experiences openly, almost like chatting over a drink, hence a relaxed and very open exchange. I find nuggets of value in everyone. I particularly like that it covers the whole space, and provides insights that only insiders would know.

Thank you David for providing such engaging content... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Joachim Lohse – Ampcontrol
Q: How has Ampcontrol's product evolved over the years?
The company started with energy management, then added vehicle data, uptime, and grid constraint handling, and is now moving toward fleet-level scheduling and coordination, integrating solar, batteries, and VPP-like capabilities to optimize charging across multiple sites.
Joachim Lohse – Ampcontrol
Q: Why did you decide to target fleets and depot operators as your primary customers?
Fleets and depots are highly cost-sensitive and operate under strict efficiency and reliability pressures, making them the most receptive to improvements in energy management, scheduling, and uptime that directly impact their TCO and operations.
Joachim Lohse – Ampcontrol
Q: What led you to start Ampcontrol and focus on power management for EV charging?
The idea emerged while researching new technologies and working with utilities; recognizing early on that EV charging and grid constraints would be a major challenge, Joachim shifted from advisory work into building a solution that could optimize charging, timing, and uptime for fleets.
Emmanuel (Manu) Masini – Mantle8
Q: What are the main regulatory and permitting challenges, and how are you navigating them to deploy this technology?
Regulation is a bottleneck and a chicken-egg problem: permits are needed to prove the concept, but proof of concept requires regulatory clarity. France currently presents a supportive ecosystem with workable permits for exploration, while across the EU the rules change at borders, necessitating agility and close collaboration with regulators and stakeholders to advance projects.
Emmanuel (Manu) Masini – Mantle8
Q: So what is the technology and where are you at in terms of your commercial pathway?
Mantle8 combines regional geology screening (geologics), in-field quantification (lab analyses and fluids/rock sampling), subsurface imaging for location and reserves, and a 4D approach (OREX) to observe hydrogen formation and movement, with a goal to prove commercial viability by identifying high-potential regions and ready-to-drill prospects.
