  • Self congratulating capitalist tripe

If you want to hear a bunch of privileged capitalists get together and tell each other how great they are at saving the world and being eco warriors then this is for you. It’s pathetic, flimsy and superficial. The only episode I listened to was a tour around the inside of Europe’s largest data centre. It’s sickening how much money is being poured into protecting chips when there is so much human tragedy in the world. Vulnerable women, children and babies the world over are dealing with war, fami... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

India’s Solar Revolution Is Bringing Cheap Energy To Millions | Ep257: Harish Hande
Q: Why do you emphasize decentralized energy as a pathway to livelihoods rather than expanding centralized grid power?
Because distributed energy aligns energy access with actual on-the-ground needs, reduces transmission losses, and enables specific use-cases (health centers, dairy processing, education) that directly improve livelihoods and outcomes; it also offers modular, bankable opportunities that scale through existing financial products.
Europe Needs Clean Tech More Than Ever | Ep 255: Thomas Pellerin-Carlin
Q: Thomas, can you summarize how energy policy actually gets made in Europe today?
Europe relies on a mix of regulations, directives, investment instruments, and enabling tools, with a push for predictability and gradual implementation across member states to coordinate a continent-wide transition.
Energy Shocks, Inflation & Risk: How a Central Bank Responds to Crisis | Ep252: Pierre Wunsch
Q: How do you view the role of carbon pricing given practical concerns about credibility and long-term investment?
The guest argues for a credible, clear carbon price trajectory complemented by subsidies and R&D to address the expensive, long-horizon technologies, noting that markets discount uncertain long-run prices and that policy design must consider political feasibility and instrument credibility.
Energy Shocks, Inflation & Risk: How a Central Bank Responds to Crisis | Ep252: Pierre Wunsch
Q: Governor, what happens when there is a sudden commodity price spike while you are running a national bank?
The guest explains that historically shocks were seen as temporary, but persistence and integrated fiscal responses can change the effect on inflation, requiring ongoing assessment and possible policy responses when energy prices remain elevated or feed through into wages and prices.
The Mother of All Energy Crises | Ep253: Fatih Birol
Q: How does the IEA view the balance between immediate crisis management and longer-term energy strategy?
Birol emphasizes three pillars—stock releases to stabilize markets, international diplomacy to coordinate supply, and targeted demand reduction—while underscoring that long-term changes such as expanding renewables, extending nuclear, and advancing new technologies are essential for resilience, not just crisis response.
