  • Self congratulating capitalist tripe

If you want to hear a bunch of privileged capitalists get together and tell each other how great they are at saving the world and being eco warriors then this is for you. It’s pathetic, flimsy and superficial. The only episode I listened to was a tour around the inside of Europe’s largest data centre. It’s sickening how much money is being poured into protecting chips when there is so much human tragedy in the world. Vulnerable women, children and babies the world over are dealing with war, fami... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can Australia Become A Clean Tech Superpower? Deep Dive Australia 05: Ross Garnaut
Q: Why focus on carbon-based trade rather than electricity?
The guest explains that transporting electricity over long distances is expensive, and the significant energy density and existing industrial ecosystems around carbon-based inputs (iron ore, metallurgical coal, ammonia) make carbon-based trade a more practical pathway for decarbonization on a global scale.
Batteries Are The Killer Tech Of The Energy Transition | Ep267: Alex Shoer
Q: How do international dynamics affect battery deployment, and what about domestic manufacturing?
The discussion covers the shift toward domestic manufacturing, JV models, cross-border collaboration, and the strategic importance of partnerships like Ford-CATL and GM-Retwood, which combine established manufacturing with new energy applications.
Batteries Are The Killer Tech Of The Energy Transition | Ep267: Alex Shoer
Q: What sparked the transition from solar to batteries, and why is storage pivotal now?
The conversation highlights California and broader US needs for storage to address grid reliability, peak demand, and the duck curve, plus the realization that storage unlocks new economics for solar-heavy markets and supports resilient, flexible infrastructure.
Batteries Are The Killer Tech Of The Energy Transition | Ep267: Alex Shoer
Q: Could you introduce yourself and describe your path into renewables?
Alex Shoer explains his finance background, his move to China for a clean tech market entry venture, and how he transitioned from solar project finance to developing a model that finances and operates solar and storage projects, eventually focusing on battery storage in the US.
Australia Loves Solar, So Why The Diesel Addiction? Deep Dive Australia 02: Chris Bowen
Q: What are the main challenges with wind and transmission, and how is Australia addressing them?
Wind is being scaled through capacity investments and auctions, with significant projects like Yen Ko Delta advancing; transmission challenges are tackled via new links (e.g., PEC) and consensual landholder agreements, under a federation framework where states lead different aspects of the plan.
