  • Persian Gulf

The presenter’s choice of naming the Persian Gulf using alternative terms reflects a lack of knowledge and awareness. This fundamental error undermines the credibility of the podcast and suggests a shallow understanding of the subject. It makes the overall discussion feel poorly informed and lacking in depth.

  • Critical industry insight into the energy transition

As a long-time listener to this podcast (and many others) on the energy transition, I particularly appreciate the straight talking investor perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. In a space full of well intentioned but uncritical advocates for change, I appreciate Gerard and Laurent’s willingness both to stress the fundamental opportunity as well as call out the worst of the BS that misalign capital allocation and harm progress.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

224. From Wind farms (yield) to Datacenters (growth) - Apr26
Q: Do you see a future where your business model becomes more than just energy provision and moves toward full integration with data centers?
Yes, the plan is to provide end-to-end platform solutions—sites, renewable power, storage, and trading capabilities—so tech companies get a fully integrated energy solution rather than just power supply.
224. From Wind farms (yield) to Datacenters (growth) - Apr26
Q: When did you first start looking into data centers, and what services are you developing around them?
We began rooting our approach in 2017 when Greencoat Renewables listed; we saw data centers as major energy users and anticipated the need for integrated solutions that couple site access with power supply, storage, and grid-aware capabilities.
223. Solar + Storage: The Economic Core of the Future Grid - Apr26
Q: From a financial market perspective, what are the biggest risks and opportunities in solar storage and clean energy today?
The biggest risk is periods of excess supply that drive prices to zero or negative on sunny days, challenging traditional revenue models; the biggest opportunity lies in integrating storage with solar and evolving market designs to reward flexibility and behind-the-meter deployments.
222. Understanding Energy and Technology in China - Mar26
Q: What role does the 15th Five-Year Plan play in shaping China's energy trajectory and global position?
The plan emphasizes domestic supplies, stockpiling, and continued technology-led growth across renewables, coal, and transmission, reinforcing China's self-sufficiency and export capabilities while maintaining strong government guidance accompanying private sector innovation.
222. Understanding Energy and Technology in China - Mar26
Q: Is China going to be a winner or loser of the current global shifts in energy and geopolitics?
The guests suggest that judgment depends on context; China is likely to be a beneficiary overall due to its large-scale electrification, industrial policy, and strategic reserves, but there will be winners and losers in different sectors and regions.
