  • Probably the best energy podcast…

Really enjoying this podcast. Energy experts with esteemed guests discussing all the important topics and much more. Probably the best energy podcast covering the European market. Very insightful - highly recommend.

  • Persian Gulf

The presenter’s choice of naming the Persian Gulf using alternative terms reflects a lack of knowledge and awareness. This fundamental error undermines the credibility of the podcast and suggests a shallow understanding of the subject. It makes the overall discussion feel poorly informed and lacking in depth.

  • Critical industry insight into the energy transition

As a long-time listener to this podcast (and many others) on the energy transition, I particularly appreciate the straight talking investor perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. In a space full of well intentioned but uncritical advocates for change, I appreciate Gerard and Laurent’s willingness both to stress the fundamental opportunity as well as call out the worst of the BS that misalign capital allocation and harm progress.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

238. Revealed: CIP’s Playbook (Live from DLA Piper) - Jul26
Q: What impacts do you foresee for investment decisions when markets face stress and volatility?
Rowan and the hosts describe a risk-aware approach, choosing markets with viable regulatory frameworks and potential for long-term PPA growth, while maintaining a focus on core competencies in energy infrastructure and adaptive strategies to manage volatility.
238. Revealed: CIP’s Playbook (Live from DLA Piper) - Jul26
Q: What is CIP's position on AI/data centers and how does it influence investment decisions?
Rowan discusses AI as a productivity driver and notes data centers are a growing driver of demand, but CIP's core business remains power solutions; they pursue opportunistic exposure to data centers while focusing on how flexible power and grid integration can create value.
238. Revealed: CIP’s Playbook (Live from DLA Piper) - Jul26
Q: What was easy five years ago in battery/storage investing, and what is more difficult now?
Rowan notes that five years ago battery storage was a clearer thesis with high capex but fewer contracting opportunities; today projects are more complex, with larger scales, longer lead times, and more embedded value in operating assets and recontracting, making execution more challenging yet with greater overall potential.
238. Revealed: CIP’s Playbook (Live from DLA Piper) - Jul26
Q: Imagine I'm an LP, I heard about CIP, but this is the first time I meet you. Please introduce Copenhagen Infrastructure Partner.
Rowan explains CIP as a fund manager that operates as an IPP with a delivery and construction engine, emphasizing hands-on asset development, procurement, financing, and lifecycle management to bring projects from development into operations.
237. Datacenters: "Let’s get Physical" with Quinbrook - Jul26
Q: How has the US vs Europe vs Australia market diverged for Quinbrook in the last five years?
The US remains highly attractive with opportunities in green fuels and liquid-fuel decarbonization, while Europe is improving economically but offers fewer near-term returns; Australia stands out as the most attractive OECD market for customer-centric, decarbonization-focused solutions due to high irradiance, abundant land, and favorable policy changes.
