  • Critical industry insight into the energy transition

As a long-time listener to this podcast (and many others) on the energy transition, I particularly appreciate the straight talking investor perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. In a space full of well intentioned but uncritical advocates for change, I appreciate Gerard and Laurent’s willingness both to stress the fundamental opportunity as well as call out the worst of the BS that misalign capital allocation and harm progress.

It could lead to volatility in raw material prices, impacting the cost of batteries and potentially affect consumer demand.
216. Clean Energy Equities Market: "Dancing While the Music Plays" - Feb26
Q: What are your thoughts on the current demand and growth in renewable energy?
Demand looks healthy in the near term, but future growth will depend on companies showing revenue acceleration and being able to finance their investments.
211. The last Mile revolution: turning Distribution Networks into Flexibility Powerhouses - Jan26
Q: Jo-Jo, can I just ask about one thing that was from last year, which was there was talk in the UK about changing the power markets, right? And moving to nodal pricing.
Locational pricing definitely benefits the system, makes the system cheaper.
206. Renewables Repriced: Hedge Funds and Algo power trading - dec25
Q: Amani, can I ask you a little bit about just two things, really, that I've seen in the market that I think are quite impactful in terms of changes?
We have moved the standard trading product from one hour to 15 minutes, fostering competition and better allocation of resources across Europe.
206. Renewables Repriced: Hedge Funds and Algo power trading - dec25
Q: Amani, can you sort of expand a little bit on that in the sense that what I'm really interested in, when you talk about PPAs, you're talking really about short-term PPAs.
The short-term PPAs facilitate agility in the market, allowing hedge opportunities and dampening price spikes when there are unforeseen market movements.
