  • False claims are never good for progress.

The a claim made during EP75 - Sr. VP on Chris Howell From Veolia: On Recycling Wind Turbine Blades & A Circular Economy on August 25, 2021 is absolutely ridiculous and not true. The comment that this complex problem is one that to quote the podcast at 3:57 “And it’s one of those problems that can only be dealt with by a large organization that has the mass and the and the cash and the infrastructure to to to tackle to to to tackle a problem that large.” This is definitely not true, Veolia might... more

Wavepiston Brings Wave Energy to Island Communities
Q: What steps should they take next to explore Wave Piston?
Reach out to discuss collaboration and potential pilots, review the Barbados project as a concrete example, and plan for phased deployments that move from pilot stages to multi-megawatt farms.
Wavepiston Brings Wave Energy to Island Communities
Q: Why should wind energy professionals and investors care about Wave Energy now?
They should pursue co-located wind and wave projects where offshore energy space can be used more efficiently, starting with islands and remote regions and expanding to utility-scale opportunities as the technology proves its reliability and cost effectiveness.
Wildlife Acoustics’ SMART System Protects Bats
Q: What should operators do now to prepare for potential regulatory changes?
Collaborate with bat biologists, collect baseline acoustic data, and consider implementing acoustically triggered curtailment to demonstrate proactive conservation and potentially align with evolving guidelines.
Wildlife Acoustics’ SMART System Protects Bats
Q: How does this differ from blanket curtailment?
Blanket curtailment pauses all turbines during certain periods, causing greater energy loss; acoustically triggered curtailment targets only the turbines in zones with bat activity, resulting in far less downtime and better energy output.
Wildlife Acoustics’ SMART System Protects Bats
Q: What is the SMART System and how does it work in practice?
It continuously listens for bat calls, identifies activity levels that meet predefined criteria, and signals the wind farm to pause or slow turbines in specific zones where bats are detected, minimizing disruption to the whole site.
