  • Great Job! (Plus research addendum)

I love the edition wars series and that you decided to track the development of individual monsters. As the proud owner of both the Moldvay-Cook basic and the Rules Cyclopedia, I would like to add that the “subdued dragon must be sold” passage is corrected to “can be sold” in the latter product, which collects all of the basic/expert core rules (but sadly not adventures). I thought you might appreciate this information. Thank you for doing this podcast!

  • 2024 DMG Review

Really enjoyed the in-depth DMG review. It must have been a ton of work, but it made for great listening and I appreciate the nuanced perspectives.

  • Y’all’s Book Club Series is Trash

If you didn’t like Perdido Street Station, and didn’t finish Perdido Street Station, then don’t post a book club episode titled Perdido Street Station. Doing so invites fans of Perdido Street Station to download the episode expecting a discussion of one of their favorite books, only to have their time wasted.

The Edition Wars series is great though.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Tome Show Presents Mike Shea: Rise of the Lazy Gamemaster
Q: What was the motivation behind rebranding from DM to GM, and how has the audience responded?
The shift reflected a broader view of game mastering across different RPGs, not just D&D. The audience embraced the broader focus, and the brand change aligned with community feedback and extended applicability of the content to many games.
The Tome Show Presents Mike Shea: Rise of the Lazy Gamemaster
Q: Why did you choose to make Rise of the Lazy Gamemaster system-agnostic when many readers expect system-specific guidance?
The eight steps are universal for prepping, running, and thinking about games, and Rise expands those ideas with lenses appropriate for various systems, campaign styles, and player preferences. It was about giving GMs a flexible toolkit rather than locking them into one system.
Tome 386 2024 Monster Manual Part 10 Genies Aren't Your Friend
Q: And also, Brandes, where can people go to find more of you?
You can find my work on brandesstoddard.com and my Patreon.
Tome 386 2024 Monster Manual Part 10 Genies Aren't Your Friend
Q: Where can people go to find more of you?
You can read old stuff that is getting further and further back on Gnome Stew and my blog whatdoiknowjr.com.
Behind the DM Screen (Oct 2023)
Q: What advice do you have for integrating a new player who's joining an ongoing campaign?
Consider using an amnesia background or collaborating with the new player on their character's backstory to help them feel connected and involved.
