  • Like english class, but better!

I started listening to this podcast specifically for the Silmarillion walk through episodes and it kindled an excitement about the book that I hadn’t felt before. They made the book feel way less intimidating to read. I loved having someone put all the greater themes of the book into simpler language and the discussions feel very thoughtful. Thank you for helping me get excited about Tolkien lore again!

  • On your age rating in Ep. 396

I have seen the LotR movies many times, and I think personally the Watcher in the Water scene in LotR (not War of the Rohirrim) is perfectly fine. I’m excited for you to keep evering on in 2025!

Great is the Fall of Gondolin.

  • Would like to see this in a mailbag ep.

I am a vehement 11 year old Tolkien nerd, having read the The Lord of the Rings 8 times and working on No. 9, having read The Silmarillion twice, and the Hobbit twice. Also slowly working on The History of Middle Earth. This is a great podcast. My dad has suggested that I start my own Tolkien podcast, but I am undecided. Keep it up!

  • Breath of Fresh Air

I have listened to many Tolkien-based podcasts over the years and I have to say this one of the best. The chemistry between the co-hosts is great and the content is top-notch. I love their down-to-earth approach to tackling the deeper things of Tolkien and his writings while at the same time keeping the conversation natural and respectful to all listeners.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Fall of Númenor » Pt 4 » "SA1 - Foundation of the Grey Havens and of Lindon" (Ep 328 Redux)
Q: What happens to Saruman?
Saruman's spirit is compared to Sauron's fate, suggesting their powers might dissipate throughout the world rather than face judgment like Elves do.
The Fall of Númenor » Pt 3 » Before the Second Age (Ep 327 Redux)
Q: Would you recommend the Silmarillion next, or is there a better place to go before jumping into that tome?
Definitely dive into the Silmarillion, as it's worth going down that road after reading Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
The Fall of Númenor » Pt 2 » The Saga of a Dark Age (Ep 325 Redux)
Q: If the characters are from the book, should we know more or less what's going to happen next?
While you might expect fidelity to Tolkien's Legendarium, the producers haven't been completely faithful to the texts.
The Fall of Númenor » Pt 2 » The Saga of a Dark Age (Ep 325 Redux)
Q: Am I able to find answers to questions about characters and plots in the books?
Yes, you can learn a lot more about Aragorn's backstory by referring to Appendix A of the Lord of the Rings.
The Fall of Númenor » Pt 2 » The Saga of a Dark Age (Ep 325 Redux)
Q: Are these movies and shows based 100% on the books, or do the producers make stuff up along the way?
The producers have to fill in a lot of blanks as the stories of the Second Age were not detailed enough to directly adapt to the screen.
