  • Fascinating topic but needs work

I’m fascinated by a lot of what’s discussed but the constant UMMMM UHHH UHHs and “likes” make it very hard to listen to. If you tighten up the delivery it would help a lot.

  • Needs sound mixing and editing

Good content but please invest some efforts into sound mixing. It is excruciating to listen to this in the car, where the host is mixed so much louder than the guests. I constantly have to ride the volume while listening. Also, please edit out the “ums” - it’s unbelievable how this got past a committee or the producers. But great work overall and important work!

  • Great analysis, bad quality

I love listening to this podcast for its insights, but I always brace myself going into an episode because 1) the audio quality is very bad and is either too quiet or fluctuates between loud and quiet, and 2) it desperately needs editing to get rid of the wild amount of time spent listening to filler words “um, you know, uh,” etc.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

After Iran War, Can America Still Be Trusted? w/ Annelle Sheline
Q: What do you think is the current state of play of the war right now?
Annelle explains that information wars obscure the true dynamics, with both sides claiming strength while real-world indicators suggest rising tensions and mobilization around potential ground actions, though the full effectiveness and political goals remain unclear.
Origins of the Imperial Presidency w/ David Sirota
Q: So let's talk about Nixon as a pivotal figure in this longer story, and why Nixon is such a pivotal figure.
Nixon is presented as the catalyst for recognizing and reacting to an imperial presidency, with Watergate highlighted as the high-watermark of presidential overreach and the subsequent reforms showing a back-and-forth between asserting executive power and curtailing it.
The Imperial Presidency and the Iran War w/ Matt Duss
Q: Why is the JCPOA viewed as a missed opportunity, and what could have been done differently?
The guests argue that diplomacy under the Obama-era JCPOA created channels and trust that could be expanded to address broader issues; withdrawing from the deal destroyed that diplomatic pathway and signaled to Iran that the U.S. cannot be trusted, making a negotiated resolution harder to achieve.
The Imperial Presidency and the Iran War w/ Matt Duss
Q: What is driving the current push toward a potential new war with Iran?
The discussion highlights a mix of concerns: Iran's ballistic missiles, the fear of a nuclear threat non-obliteration, Israel's security priorities, and a broader U.S. aim to deter regional adversaries, all blended with political calculations about public opinion and the risk of a protracted conflict.
War Clouds Over Iran w/ Amir Handjani
Q: What's your sense of the sort of domestic politics?
Many in the MAGA base feels duped by the president because he ran on anti-interventionist policies, yet the administration is engaged in military actions.
