  • Garbage podcast that only cries about Trump and maga and has no real idea about the real world only the left wing talking points that you see on the other liberal networks.

  • Wide ranging topics, firm POV

Derek and Danny provide a great and informed lens through which to interpret current geopolitical events. There is a lot going on in this big world of ours and this program is a good way to feel at least somewhat informed, especially for those critical of the US empire but don’t have the time to analyze every source of information dispensed by legacy media. They have a strong point of view, which I like. I don’t think it diminishes their capability to inform but rather lends credibility in how t... more

  • Great Podcast Other Than Danny's Pretentious Professorial Pontificating

My go to source for foreign policy critique from a left perspective. Also helps you learn about and stay up to date on international relations.

Derek is great. Danny is usually good. Their coterie of IR commentators is a great one.

Danny does this thing sometimes where he yells about the means of production and civilizational projects at guests like it's a debate me bro session at a college bar full of aspiring philosophy majors. When that happens I just stop listening to the episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E241 - How Iran Turns Into a Ground War w/ Harrison Mann
Q: What is the smallest, most pinpointed operation you discuss, and how feasible is it for U.S. forces to insert and extract quickly?
It could involve a small number of special operations troops inserting into Iran with air cover, but even in this best-case scenario you face significant challenges like secrecy, air support, rapid withdrawal, and the risk of leaving behind vital assets or creating a larger conflict.
Special - How the War on Iran Is Breaking the Gulf w/ Annelle Sheline
Q: So what does the Gulf's security relationship look like in a post-war or post-escalation scenario?
Gulf states are likely to publicly reaffirm ties to the US while quietly diversifying partnerships and building up local defense capabilities to reduce over-reliance, seeking stability and economic resilience even as they hedge against further escalation.
Special - Israel’s War on Lebanon w/ Afeef Nessouli
Q: How is Lebanese society reacting politically and socially to the invasion and the government's response?
He explains a broad spectrum of public sentiment, from frustration with elite leadership to cautious emphasis on solidarity and mutual aid, highlighting how sectarian tensions are being stoked but also how grassroots organizations and individual initiatives are keeping communities resilient.
Special - Israel’s War on Lebanon w/ Afeef Nessouli
Q: What is the current state of things in Lebanon amid the southward invasion and airstrikes?
Afeef Nessouli describes widespread displacement, damaged infrastructure, and a humanitarian crisis, with people living in shelters and facing limited access to essential services, while noting that fighting and occupation are shaping a new normal on the ground.
Special - International Law and the War on Iran w/ Maryam Jamshidi
Q: How should proportionality be assessed in this context, and what are the implications for civilian harm?
Proportionality requires weighing the expected military advantage against civilian casualties; the guest contends that many proposed targets (like oil depots) cause disproportionate harm to civilians and may render the strikes unlawful.
