  • Mostly Great Podcasy

I enjoy learning new things from this podcast and hearing the anecdotal support for certain therapy modalities, working with certain podcasts, etc. I do feel that deeper fact checking may need to happen especially when talking about certain modalities. For example, in the brainspotting episode, the two therapists said that EMDR does not focus on the body at all and that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is literally a phase of EMDR called Body Scan. There are many interventions that brin... more

  • Love this.

I love this podcast. The information and resources being provided is aiding my growing my clinical skills. I feel that I did not learn much of clinical skills in grad school. (I recently graduated this year). Could you possibly do more episodes on diagnosis, interventions, group activities, and how to navigate suicidal conversations and alcohol use disorder?

  • Love it, but please balance the sound!

Love the podcast - as a counselor in training this is a great introduction to the landscape of our field and the emerging franchise model of Ellie. My only suggestion is PLEASE balance the intro and exit sound…it is so much louder than the episode content, blows my ears out every time I listen.

  • So practical, applicable, & validating!

I graduated with my MSW in 2020 right amidst the pandemic. I spent my first 2 years out of grad school working in the school system and have now transitioned into an outpatient private group therapy practice. The topics and conversations in the podcast so far have been practical, applicable, and validating for someone whose just getting started as a baby therapist! Thank you!

115. Involving Parents in Their Child's Therapy Treatment: How Jessie Colter, LICSW Does It
Q: So what is your kind of approach to working with parents, Jessie?
I absolutely require parent involvement with my littles. I mean, I would say up until about six years old.
116. Understanding and Treating Bipolar Disorder
Q: How do you treat bipolar disorder?
Treatment involves good diagnosis, medication management, therapy, and education to ensure compliance and stabilize the patient.
116. Understanding and Treating Bipolar Disorder
Q: Why is it so important to have a specific bipolar disorder diagnosis instead of kind of skirting around with these other ones?
Because bipolar disorder is chronic and without the proper diagnosis, there can't be appropriate treatment, which can lead to multiple hospitalizations.
114. AI & Mental Health: A Conversation with Dr. Rachel Wood
Q: Do you think that therapists should be concerned about their jobs being taken away because of tools like these?
I don't think we should see it as a turf war. If we bring up a defense mechanism immediately about this, we are actually creating a separation between us and the clients who are using this that are going to need our help eventually.
106. ADHD in Women with Dr. Jennifer Dall
Q: Why do you think ADHD goes undetected in women for so long?
Research has traditionally focused on men, leading to misinterpretation of women's symptoms as personality traits rather than a disorder. This perpetuates the cycle of misunderstanding.
