  • Natural & Informative

I had the pleasure to interview with Ed and quickly became a fan of his podcast after. He does a skillful interview yet masters it as natural conversation. I love how each of his guests leave their listener with key advice at the end but I also love how informative the conversations are overall. I have picked up a lot of wisdom from each episode and have learned so many accomplished and impressive names in the sports industry because of him. I highly recommend others to listen if they want to le... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

430: Charlotte Evans MBE-Why your Mindset and Resilience are key when pursing a career in sports and business?
Q: What was the turning point in your mindset during the four-year Paralympic cycle?
The turning point came when I shifted from a negative inner dialogue to actively believing in what I could achieve, aided by experiences like the Clipper Race that showed I could learn quickly and become competent under new pressures.
438: Richard Scudamore CBE- What Skills do you need to be a Football League CEO?
Q: Richard, it's such a joy to have you on the Sports Career Podcast. Please you share your business and football career journey. When did it all start?
My career kicked off in sales and marketing, moving from Yellow Pages to newspapers and then into the football business. A pivotal moment was applying for the EFL Chief Executive role after recognizing the importance of focusing on the Championship and the broader pyramid—this laid the groundwork for my later move to the Premier League and a global broadcast strategy.
439: Sarah Solémalé - How can Sports Policy with Ethical Leadership develop Football Governance?
Q: What three tips would you give to someone starting a career in football governance?
First, understand systems comprehensively, not just prestige; second, build deep expertise before chasing broad networks; third, know when to stay or leave and regularly reassess alignment with values and growth.
439: Sarah Solémalé - How can Sports Policy with Ethical Leadership develop Football Governance?
Q: What does ethical leadership look like in football governance, and how do policy and leadership reinforce each other?
Ethical leadership provides the culture of accountability, transparency, and long-term thinking, while policy provides the structured frameworks. They must be practiced together; without integrity at the top, a governance framework stays theoretical, but with consistent ethical leadership, policies translate into real-world impact.
439: Sarah Solémalé - How can Sports Policy with Ethical Leadership develop Football Governance?
Q: Could you talk about what inspired you to become a lawyer and how that led to a career in football governance?
My fascination with the power of knowledge and legal frameworks as tools for agency drove me to law; I wanted to shape systems rather than just navigate them, which naturally led me into governance work in football and opportunities at FIFA and later at European clubs.
