So you’re not going to give Trump any credit for stopping the war in

Israel? You have spent enough time bashing him!

  • Not Shortwave

    Update:

Reduced to 2 stars for the following reason: at the end of every show the producer, Dan, now states “you have the look even harder <for content> these days due to EU and US prohibition on media.”

This is categorically untrue. Dan regularly plays Sputnik (Voice of Russia), Voice of Cuba and other authoritarian-controlled mandated content from countries at the bottom of the freedom of press index. These countries broadcast what they are told to by government security agencies. These cou... more

  • Not Shortwave

This is a review of podcasts worldwide, rather than programmes received on shortwave. In addition, it’s often a difficult listen. The host lives in California off-grid and is well educated on human-induced climate change, and so excerpts of world effects of this are welcome.

The majority of the programming is alt right wing commentators and dodgy country propaganda output. If people don’t have the intellectual faculties to dig into who is speaking, they could be fooled by a lot of this garbag... more

  • Good resource!

This podcast is a wonderful way to get news from several different sources. The shortwave frequencies and broadcast times is a nice bonus.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Shortwave Report April 17, 2026
Q: Which strategies do countries adopt in response to this war, balancing or de-risking?
Walt notes that de-risking is the most obvious reaction, with countries seeking new trade partners and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, while some European states are distancing themselves from the United States to avoid being tied to an impulsive war.
The Shortwave Report April 17, 2026
Q: So with that in mind, how much does this war with Iran illustrate that point?
Walt argues that the war exposes the limits of American military power and questions the competence of U.S. leadership, suggesting that allies and others doubt American judgment and that the conflict underscores a shift toward less predictable and more aggressive foreign policy.
The Shortwave Report April 10, 2026
Q: In the short term, is there the risk that the crisis could cause countries to double down on fossil fuels?
Yes, there is a real risk that gas shortages push countries toward coal and other fossil fuels in the near term, but the discussion stresses that the long-term path should prioritize electrification and renewables to improve energy security.
The Shortwave Report February 27, 2026
Q: From a defense perspective, what does the use of AI in battlefield contexts actually mean in practice?
It means ongoing debates about maintaining human oversight, ensuring safeguards against autonomous targeting, and preventing escalation, while weighing defensive needs against ethical and legal constraints.
The Shortwave Report February 6, 2026
Q: Did the US and Russia still respect the limits set by New Start even after cooperation was suspended?
According to our open source estimates, we've seen that the limit of numbers of nuclear weapons... have been maintained in the requirements under the New Start Treaty.
