Everything you missed at Original Art Expo with West Coast Davengers: Original Comic Art, Kirby Awards, and More
Q: What is a memorable art piece you've seen this weekend?
Seeing the entirety of Superman 75 original art was a highlight, especially touching the pieces I grew up with.
Everything you missed at Original Art Expo with West Coast Davengers: Original Comic Art, Kirby Awards, and More
Q: What separates Original Art Expo from other conventions?
It's the only event focused solely on Original Art, creating a less chaotic environment for attendees.
Michael Cho is channeling the King: An interview about Jack Kirby, Silver Age comics, and Thundarr
Q: What are the Jack Kirby characters, concepts or designs that don't get the love that his more iconic work does?
One character I love is Ransack the Reject from The Eternals, who is often overlooked, but I got the chance to draw him recently.
Michael Cho is channeling the King: An interview about Jack Kirby, Silver Age comics, and Thundarr
Q: What was it like to finally draw yourself into Jack Kirby's Marvel universe?
It was a great experience; I love Kirby to death and he informs a lot of what I do. The Verocity Trap was me trying to do my best Kirby as if I had no more constraints and could just Kirby out everything the way I wanted to.
Cliff Chiang is planning his next big thing: An interview about process, Paper Girls, and DC Comics
Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring creator that might be in between projects themselves?
It's important to work on things for yourself. Find a manageable smaller project you can complete, not a massive undertaking. Experimenting with your style even without direct deadlines can help ignite inspiration.
