  • Great variety

Ron’s knowledge, journalism experience, and sense of humor are so keen. Love the interviews and the quirky features, like playing recordings of old race calls and talking about the history, him and friends recounting adventures and memories from so many races and tracks. Previews of upcoming races always feature a great guest or handicapper. Really enjoy every bit of it!

No Saudi Cup info……. You don’t k like the regime, yawn. Probably cause you no nothing about international racing. If it ain’t Derby you know nothing about it. So you are ok with Soros’ SF racing? All the destruction that guy has done. We are fine with the money the Saudi’s and Emirate’s spend in Kentucky but we want to to be holier than tho on their races. We are fine with Wal mart exploitation of workers in China and still talk about the Rams, Broncos, Avalanche and Nuggets. Ok!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S9E33: A Laurel and hearty Preakness
Q: What do you think about the Cherwa plan to force Derby winners to run in the Preakness if three veterinarians say they're fit?
The hosts discuss the plan as an interesting but potentially impractical idea, noting that forcing Derby winners into the Preakness could undermine the Derby and the event's integrity, and highlight legal, financial, and ethical concerns.
S9E30: Kentucky Derby stars & mystery guest
Q: What is your assignment for NBC during Derby weekend?
Steve Kornacki explains using a big-board to surface stats and historical angles that may resonate with viewers, offering offbeat but potentially useful insights about the field.
S9E31: What do you mean he's not going?
Q: What are the main arguments for and against forcing horses to run in the Preakness if they win the Derby?
Proponents argue it preserves the Triple Crown and tradition, while opponents claim it can endanger the horse's health and may not be in the horse's best interest; a balanced view suggests flexibility depending on horse condition and field quality.
S9E28: 'Twas the week before Derby
Q: What are the Derby contenders and how are they shaping up for Churchill Downs?
Riley Mott discusses Albus and Incredibolt, their training plans, surface preferences, and spacing, indicating they are viable Derby contenders with room to improve, depending on race dynamics and pace.
S9E27: Sovereignty vs. Journalism 3.0
Q: How do you view the pace and weight allocations for this race?
Pace should favor a calculated, jockey-led strategy with the field capable of handling a measured early pace; weights were a compromise to balance top horses like Sovereignty and Journalism, aiming to keep the race fair while recognizing quality.
