  • Re Ep ‘Why did the Coalition perform so poorly among multicultural voters, …’

The opening premise of this (ie its title) is arrogant, presumptuous & offensive! Fancy intimating that otherwise multicultural, religious Aussies, etc - would otherwise normally vote LNP / Conservative - indeed! The misguided premise itself better explains why LNP & Co lost - ie their sheer arrogance!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Religion and Ethics Report Special: The Philippine People's Revolution
Q: Has the Catholic Church become more radical since the hopes of the revolution were dashed?
The guest explains that the Church remained a central, persistent voice in social and political issues, becoming more assertive after Vatican II but not necessarily radical in the sense of calling for immediate overthrow; instead, it balanced governance with moral critique, influencing public discourse over decades.
Could transhumanism threaten our existence?
Q: What would count as crossing the line in transhumanist development, and why is that line important?
A development that grants a whole new human capacity not possessed by our species would cross a line, especially if it fundamentally alters what it means to be human, raising questions about identity, ethics, and whether such changes should be pursued.
Working with children in places of despair and chaos
Q: Did you think of it as being brave though? Were you conscious at the time that what you were doing was a fairly risky proposition for you?
The guest explains she was fully aware of the risks as a female leader and Christian aid worker, but felt compelled to stay and serve, because leaving would send a wrong signal and undermine World Vision's mission to help the most vulnerable.
Social cohesion: the limits of the law
Q: Can social cohesion be conjured out of law, or is it better addressed by broader social policies?
Broader social policies addressing economic insecurity, health, education, and regional equity are more likely to build durable social cohesion than punishment through new criminal offences.
Social cohesion: the limits of the law
Q: Is there a case for setting a red line in public discourse, as you describe it, using the law?
There can be a case for red lines in public discourse to deter extreme or violent rhetoric, but the challenge is defining where that line should be and ensuring it doesn't infringe on legitimate free speech.
