  • Re Ep ‘Why did the Coalition perform so poorly among multicultural voters, …’

The opening premise of this (ie its title) is arrogant, presumptuous & offensive! Fancy intimating that otherwise multicultural, religious Aussies, etc - would otherwise normally vote LNP / Conservative - indeed! The misguided premise itself better explains why LNP & Co lost - ie their sheer arrogance!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The untouchable Erdogan
Q: Tell me, you must agree it was extremely well organized. This organization has a culture of impunity.
Yes, the deep state in Turkey was indeed well-organized and involved in various political manipulations and actions suppressing dissent.
The untouchable Erdogan
Q: What was the nature, though, David, of these religious orders and the type of Islam that they preached?
The religious orders were multifaceted, mediating between the state and the self, serving cultural and educational roles, and promoting a tolerant form of Islam.
The untouchable Erdogan
Q: Was the revival of a much more open form of religious politics, a much more bold form of religious politics, a response to the very assertive secularism of Turkish government over the previous 60 years?
The revival was indeed a response to the secularism that sought to control Islam rather than abolish it, allowing for the emergence of religious movements.
Cronulla riots: a clash of cultures or a drunken brawl?
Q: What for you personally was the message and the impact though, seeing a beloved part of your childhood erupt in violence?
I felt ashamed and sad, knowing the community and its people were tarnished by the violence, but it provided an opportunity to build bridges.
Cronulla riots: a clash of cultures or a drunken brawl?
Q: What had happened, though, in the lead up to these riots?
There were provocations involving a group of young men and issues of beach management with increasing tensions leading up to the riots.
