#38 - A conversation with 2 Big Pipe Subject Matter Experts; Mike James ISCO industries VP and Matthew Danysh AGRU Americas Technical Engineer
Q: What one thing do you want the industry to know about AGRU?
AGRU has a long heritage in HDP, with proven pipe systems designed for large diameters and high pressure, backed by decades of engineering and global manufacturing capabilities to deliver reliable, durable, and scalable solutions for complex water and transmission networks.
#39 Horizontal Directional Drilling Explained (HDD): A Conversation with Jon Schumchyk
Q: Jon, could you give us a five-minute review of what HDD is and how it works?
HDD is a trenchless technology that uses a drill rig on the surface to push and steer rods through the ground, enabling installations under roads, rivers, or railways without open-cutting. A reamer and drilling mud help create and widen the bore, with HDPE piping pulled or pushed through once the bore is established. The process relies on precise steering and mud management to avoid voids, maintain borehole pressure, and manage friction and drag; fusing HDPE on-site provides strong, continuous joints that are crucial for long runs and challenging soils.
#41 Inside Murphy Pipelines: Building HDPE Projects Through Education & Execution
Q: What is one key thing engineers should know about your trenchless technologies when considering a project?
The technology can dig two pits, pull 5,000 feet of HDPE in one monolithic fusion, creating a joint-free, leak-free run from end to end, which dramatically reduces potential leak points and eliminates the need for annual cathodic protection testing in many cases.
