Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

725: Will & Joe from PipeRevival. Jeremy Reeves from Cornell & Diehl
Q: What makes C&D flakes different from other Danish-style flakes?
Differences come down to equipment, pressure, leaf, and moisture; their process yields flakes that rub and hold differently than other brands, with binding agents and pressing approaches playing critical roles.
725: Will & Joe from PipeRevival. Jeremy Reeves from Cornell & Diehl
Q: Why aren't you making coin cuts currently?
Because the time and equipment needed to produce coins would divert significant resources from our existing, more efficient production lines, making it not feasible for us at this time.
721: Eric Scholten of Sylvan Pipes. Jeff Gracik: Ask the Pipemaker.
Q: When did pipe smoking come into your life?
Eric explains that pipe interest began around 2023 after his father gifted him a pipe, which sparked ongoing exploration and involvement with local shops and a pipe club.
721: Eric Scholten of Sylvan Pipes. Jeff Gracik: Ask the Pipemaker.
Q: Where did you grow up?
Eric describes growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and later moving to Kentucky, where his family connections and eventual relocation shaped his path toward pipe making.
723: Pipe Maker Jody Davis. Bo Parker of Methodical Coffee.
Q: What information do you really want from somebody when they're commissioning a pipe from you?
Typically shape preferences, chamber size, overall length, and optional variations like Spanish options or stem color, but I emphasize leeway to allow the briar to guide the final form.
