Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Overlooked Role of Nutrient Deficiencies in IBS and Gut Dysfunction with Amy Hollenkamp, RD
Q: How do you balance the use of prokinetics and nutritional strategies for gut motility issues?
I favor starting with less aggressive options like certain herbal prokinetics (motility activator, acetyl-CH active, chamomile) and only escalate if needed, always measuring impact on bloating and overall gut function while ensuring nutritional support and micronutrient adequacy.
The Overlooked Role of Nutrient Deficiencies in IBS and Gut Dysfunction with Amy Hollenkamp, RD
Q: What common patterns do you see in dysbiosis that listeners might recognize even without testing?
Many IBS patients show patterns like low bifidobacteria and issues with proteobacteria; however, individual responses vary and tests can mislead if interpreted in isolation. The key is to focus on microbial diversity and fiber-rich, balanced diets rather than just chasing a single pathogen.
Reversing Crohn's and Colitis Naturally: Root Cause Healing with Josh Dech
Q: What tools do you use to unwind underlying drivers in Crohn's or colitis?
We start with a comprehensive history to locate root causes, then use a combination of plants, supplements, and, when necessary, pharmaceuticals to manage inflammation while addressing upstream issues. Stool testing and targeted immune panels may guide us, but the emphasis is on treating the root cause and stacking interventions slowly to avoid flares.
Human Milk Oligosaccharides and the Future of Gut-Brain-Immune Therapies with Alex Martinez
Q: Where can people find these HMOs and how will the products be marketed?
HMOs are produced via precision fermentation and delivered as purified, human-identical oligosaccharides (with careful downstream processing to minimize impurities), with a consumer-focused brand Intrinsic Wellness planned to launch soon for over-the-counter access.
Human Milk Oligosaccharides and the Future of Gut-Brain-Immune Therapies with Alex Martinez
Q: Can you tell me about the research around the gut bacteria and gut-brain-immune access disorders?
HMOs act as selective substrates for bifidobacteria, help them adhere and outcompete pathogens, and may blunt immune activation by interacting with TLR4, while also strengthening gut barrier function through tight junction modulation and SCFA production, offering a multi-pathway approach to gut-brain-immune health.
