  • Great podcast, guests, and host!

Have been a big fan of Turner’s for many years so I was excited to hear about his podcast! Been loving the episodes and amazing guests so far - from the big names like Keith Rabois to the more under the radar operators.

I really enjoyed the episode with Jonathon Barkl, the Co-founder and CEO of AirGarage, and learning about their quick series A. Highly recommend it!

  • Fantastic podcast

I have no way to prove this, but if I had to guess, Turner does more research on his guests than 99.9% of podcast hosts out there. He’s not afraid to get into the nitty gritty so listeners can learn something new. Highly recommend this show.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The $5B Venture Growth Buyout Playbook | Alex Israel, Metropolis
Q: What is the durable revenue opportunity behind this growth buyout approach?
Durable revenue comes from deploying technology that creates ongoing relationships and expands the product across multiple verticals, generating incremental revenue from customers rather than relying solely on cost savings. The idea is to build a platform that delivers value to partners and customers through expanded use cases, which leads to broader adoption and higher gross margins over time.
Inside Canada’s Fastest Growing AI Company | Spellbook, Scott Stevenson
Q: How did Spellbook approach funding and growth once PMF was achieved?
PMF was validated by a rapid spike in signups and revenue, prompting a fast Series B. The founder highlights using transparent growth metrics to raise efficiently, traveling to meet many investors in person, and leveraging a viral growth story from a powerful ARR chart to accelerate funding and board support.
Inside Canada’s Fastest Growing AI Company | Spellbook, Scott Stevenson
Q: Why did Spellbook pursue a bottom-up, end-user adoption model rather than a top-down enterprise rollout?
Because the end users—the lawyers and contract managers—are the ones who actually produce and approve contracts. A bottoms-up approach yields stronger product-market fit, higher retention, and faster expansion, while avoiding misaligned incentives typical of large firm committees. This approach also enabled rapid, iterative learning through landing pages and real-world usage.
Inside Canada’s Fastest Growing AI Company | Spellbook, Scott Stevenson
Q: What is Spellbook, and how does it actually work in practice for lawyers?
Spellbook sits on top of Microsoft Word and acts like an intelligent drafting assistant, offering contract review, risk identification, and auto-generated edits while preserving the lawyer's control. It also includes a separate 'Spellbook Associate' for multi-document tasks and a data-driven market comparison interface, all designed to fit naturally into a lawyer's existing workflow.
Benchmark’s Chetan Puttagunta on the Past, Present, & Future of Software
Q: What was the story behind Manus?
Manus started as a consumer AI agent product that demonstrated a breakthrough in breaking tasks into numerous sub-components and using many models in parallel, allowing it to outperform prior AI chat solutions and win rapid beta traction, including a viral moment in Japan that spurred in-person meetings and a strong founder-investor relationship.
