  • Out of state bashing

Want to start by saying I really enjoy the podcast. But I must say that I REALLY didn’t appreciate the out of state hunter bashing of episode 205. I guess you Kansas waterfowlers are much better than the rest of us.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode #256 Mallards Down. Should Seasons Change? w/ Dr. Mike Brasher, DU Senior Waterfowl Scientist
Q: Give a quick overview of what exactly is the Adaptive Harvest Management and how it determines season links and bag limits.
AHM is a structured, transparent process used to set annual duck harvest regulations. It defines explicit objectives, considers multiple harvest packages (liberal, moderate, restrictive), uses four competing models to predict population responses, and employs data like pond counts and breeding population estimates to evaluate predictions against actual outcomes. The matrix and stochastic dynamic programming framework translate these insights into optimal regulatory recommendations that are revisited each year based on updated data.
Episode #250 Is Duck Hunting Really Being Ruined A Civil Debate
Q: What made you feel the emotions that you felt about the reel?
Alan expressed that he felt a disconnect between Elliott's portrayal of effort and his own experiences in Texas, where he has witnessed a decline in duck populations, leading to frustration.
Episode #246 Bands Hybrids and What Really Moves Mallards w/ Chris Jobman
Q: What do you think about force fetching a soft dog?
Take your time with force fetch and do short, positive sessions, focusing on keeping the dog engaged and not allowing them to become overwhelmed.

Harrison shares his journey into waterfowl hunting, detailing how he didn't grow up doing it but was introduced by friends, leading to a passionate involvement in the sport.
