  • Great listen!

The lesson on community and the importance of reaching out to others is clear to me here. No need to go it alone, whatever it is you are going through or if you are a father or mother. Sharing these ideas is so important for anyone going through anything new. It’s scary, but with community it’s more fun and less threatening.

The Good Side of Anger with Sam Parker
Q: What does Sam see as the core function of anger in parenting and relationships?
Anger reveals underlying boundaries and vulnerabilities; when understood and directed constructively, it can energize protecting loved ones and improving situations, not just trigger conflict.
The Unexpected Loneliness of Fatherhood with Sam Graham-Felsen
Q: What practical steps can dads take to build and sustain friendships, especially when busy with family life?
Start with small, regular actions like texting weekly, walking with a friend, and scheduling monthly calls; use asynchronous formats like voice memos or shared books to create regular touchpoints without heavy time commitments.
The Unexpected Loneliness of Fatherhood with Sam Graham-Felsen
Q: What was the core message of your NYT essay on male loneliness and why did you decide to publish it?
The core message was that men are conditioned to neglect friendships after starting families, which harms mental health; publishing the essay helped connect hundreds of men who related to loneliness and encouraged them to seek community.
