  • Stop it!!!

This is very, very difficult to listen to. It seems like you guys are all reading off of a page. There's no natural pause hesitation, organic conversation. I had to turn it off ...stop that.

  • Great information on dairy markets. The Jacobys bring decades of experience to this monthly podcast about the state of the ever changing dairy industry. Sounds quality sometimes detracts from episodes and content can be a little out of date by the time the episodes are released. Possibly a lag time between recording and release?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can the U.S. Keep Its Dairy Export Advantage?
Q: Does the US have the necessary market access and global reach to capture sales opportunities in a multipolar world?
Yes, but with caveats: ongoing market-access improvements, especially in Indonesia and Taiwan, plus strategic expansion into diverse regions like Latin America and Southeast Asia, are crucial to staying competitive as China's dominance wanes and new players rise.
The $1,000 Calf: Why Beef Matters on the Dairy Farm
Q: How have replacement costs and calf prices influenced long-term investment decisions on dairy farms?
Rising replacement costs, with dairy heifer prices reaching around $3,000 in 2025, push farmers to leverage beef-on-dairy strategies and longer livestock cycles, shaping capital allocation toward maintaining or expanding herds in a way that balances milk production with higher-value beef revenue.
The $1,000 Calf: Why Beef Matters on the Dairy Farm
Q: What exactly is the beef-on-dairy trend and why is it changing profitability for dairy farms?
Beef-on-dairy involves using dairy cows to produce beef calves or crossbred calves; improved genetics and gender-sorted semen make it easier to raise beef calves from dairy cows, creating a new revenue stream that adds to milk sales and cull value, thereby boosting overall farm profitability.
The Ozempic and GLP-1 shockwave hitting U.S. dairy
Q: How can dairy align with GLP-1 weight management narratives?
Dairy can support weight management through high-quality protein and fat-rich products that improve satiety, enabling dairy to be positioned as part of a balanced, long-term health strategy rather than a short-term diet fix.
The Ozempic and GLP-1 shockwave hitting U.S. dairy
Q: What are GLP-1s and why are they important for dairy?
GLP-1s are appetite-suppressing peptides; the discussion centers on how maintaining higher GLP-1 levels through pharmaceuticals can influence snacking, dietary choices, and the role dairy can play in a satiety-focused diet.
