Let it snow, listeners, because this is it - the definitive debate! We’re going to answer, once and for all, whether Die Hard (1988) is Christmas movie, with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY… kind of. We get deep into the internet’s favorite festive debate, and wh... more
And now for a movie that’s as coarse, rough, and irritating as sand! Still, in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, we find meaningful parallels to military history across the world (the US, Ancient Rome, and Enlightenment France, for example)... more
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, two podcasters strapped in for an exciting undertaking… It’s been years since we first sat down to analyze the original Star Wars trilogy, one movie at a time; now, we take on the prequels. Framing our conv... more
Thank you for such a well done and captivating podcast! I always look forward to listening.
I’ve been teaching high school English for almost 18 years now, and I was researching the Arthurian Legends when I stumbled upon this podcast. This mashup of history, literature, philosophy, storytelling, and film is so compelling and so fascinating that I haven’t stopped listening. It doesn’t hurt that I love “nerd culture,” and a lot of my favorites are discussed here! I recommend anyone who is looking for an intelligent, thoughtful, and entertaining listen check this podcast out. Definitely m... more
Great insight. Interesting takes. Have only listened to a few, like it a lot except for the “ums” and “ahs” which drive me crazy (makes it sound unprofessional) and keep it from being a 5 rating for me.
I absolutely loved this podcast. I never saw the movie but I did read the novel not so long ago (could totally advise it, btw).
But every one of these episodes feels back layers of story and makes me rethink what I see floating beneath the surface.
Awesome job, as always!
The Midnight Myth is possibly the most unique movie podcast I've ever listened to...the deep, educated dive into the history and mythology of the focused film adds a new layer of appreciation and complexity that will now have me rethinking some of my favorite films!
This podcast is fabulous. I just listened to the first of a two-parter on Amadeus and the world of the classics, and I was blown away by the in-depth and erudite analysis both hosts offered. This show is clever and educational but avoids being dry thanks to the passion of both Derek and Laurel about their subjects. Would definitely recommend if you're fond of deep dives.
Like Yoda being so old and ugly he turns out to be "CUTE". The Boomerangerang is so Ridiculous in its offering that it is absolutely...BRILLIANT!!! I absolutely loved it! I am not sure I will even want to try and attempt to spoil it by telling you anything other than check the gift that is a bonus Boomerangerang ( you usually need to be a Patreon suppoter to enjoy). The Hosts, so cleverly attempt to abide by the rules (some instances better than the others; that it becoms fascinating and utterly... more
Derek and Laurel have a passion for great storytelling. Their passion is present in each episode which makes for great listening! I particularly enjoy episodes relating to Tolkien and Lord of the Rings. Keep up the great work you guys!
I am a self-admitted Tower Junkie. Try as I might to get my friends to join me on the Path, none will. Thank you for The Wheel of Ka. This series has legit saved me over the past year and to hear your thoughtful and intelligent analysis makes me feel like Dorothy going from a world in Black and White to Color. May your Days be Long upon the Earth.
Storytelling? Myths? Movies/TV?? Why is everyone not subscribed immediatly!?? Let Derek and laurel's unique perspective guide you through new facets of the media you already love with a new perspective you didn't realise you already loved. I need more, right now!!!
I heard about The Midnight Myth through another Podcast Verbal Diorama, and I am absolutely hooked. This podcast combines everything I love. Pop culture, Mythology and the art of storytelling and how all three are intrinsically linked. Derek and Laurel are fantastic hosts and their passion for the subjects they talk about ooze our of every episode. I just wish I was there to join in the conversation as I find myself wanting to contribute. If you love storytelling then this is the podcast for you... more
Derek and Laurel clearly love story. It’s refreshing to hear their takes on beloved movies, myths, legends, and shows. Also they re-uploaded past episodes as bonus episodes and y’all should def check them out.
I dove into this show with their discussion of Prince Leia. Why? Because I'm a Star Wars nut. And what a lovely entry to this show it was. The Midnight Myth Podcast is a refeshingly soft, joyful look into the history of stories, characters, and more. It's hosted by two wonderful hosts, Derek and Laurel, who really want to explore storytelling elements.
Highly recommended. Plus, they covered GoT, and we all know nearly everyone has an opinion on *that* show.
I finally got around to Listening to The Midnight Myth Podcast and I’m so ready to listen to more! Each episode is extremely well researched, and if you love learning about history and pop culture you’ll want to listen to the show too - Morgan (Burst Your Bubble)
I have a passion for stories and I love when you can take a different perspective on them. That's exactly what they do in The Midnight Myth - they offer you a different take and, sometimes an entire paradigm shift on the stories you thought you knew. I can't get enough.
