  • So encouraging for empty nesters

Thank you for sharing encouragement for empty nested parents. It is helpful to hear a Christian mom speak on this topic in a short message. Even if our adult children are Christians, it helps to have this encouragement. Thank you!!

220. What Every Mom Needs: Healing from Mother Wounds with Best-Selling Author, Melanie Shankle

220. What Every Mom Needs: Healing from Mother Wounds with Best-Selling Author, Melanie Shankle
Q: What moment did you realize the wounds from your mother were still shaping you as an adult?
The realization came in my 20s and 30s, when becoming a mother highlighted how much the past affected my parenting and self-perception, prompting me to seek healing.
218. When a Prodigal Comes Home: Encouragement for Moms of Wayward Adult Children with Judy Douglass
Q: Let's dive in. Judy, for the mom listening today whose adult child has wandered far from faith or family, can you briefly share your Prodigal story and what that season was like for you as a mom?
I shared the background of taking in a traumatized 9- or 10-year-old, adopted him, and watched years of ups and downs with alcohol, gangs, and broken relationships. The turning point came when grace, patience, and steady faith began to replace anger and rigidity, and when a supportive community and Leslie's faith brought Josh toward God. Through continual prayer, intentional love, and practical acts of blessing, Josh gradually embraced faith, responsibility, and service in church life, culminating in a transformative season for the whole family.

Q: How can we support aging parents with compassion while managing our own families?
Pamela emphasizes the concept of the sandwich generation, advocating for deliberate choices, not taking things personally, and prioritizing presence, prayer, and practical help to help aging parents feel included and loved.
