  • Short episodes TFW

I’ve been loving the short bathroom breaks. There quick, to the point explanations of marketing tips/trends/strategies. I’m into it, keep it up.

  • Is the host ok?

I listened to the Agnew interview and found him to be very well spoken, insightful, and able to articulate how behavioral psych has practical application very well. I am excited to follow his pod. But the host was borderline uncomfortable to listen to: stumbling for words, taking long but not thoughtful pauses, seemingly disengaged, and not adding anything of worth to the convo. I’ll give it another shot in time but hope these issues get addressed.

  • Cringy, but some gems

I don’t know if the host is doing a bit or what, but the “millennial buzzwords” that he relies on for intros/segues are hard to listen to (and, in my opinion and at the risk of sounding too much like a marketer, really devalue the brand he’s building). Most of the topics aren’t super applicable to me, but for the most part I enjoy the guests he brings on and their conversations. There is just enough good content here to keep me subscribed, solid three stars.

SPECIAL SERIES: Why Every Brand Needs a Social-First Content Strategy with Eric Stark, Co-Founder of Slate
Q: How should marketing organizations structure themselves to support social-first content?
Lead with a VP-level content leader who owns the function, build an internal content team with multiple creators, a designer, and editors, and ensure the team is deeply connected to the rest of marketing rather than siloed.
SPECIAL SERIES: Why Every Brand Needs a Social-First Content Strategy with Eric Stark, Co-Founder of Slate
Q: What was the moment you decided to build a new tool because the current options were breaking for social teams?
The shift to stories and the realization that social managers were becoming cell phone content creators made it clear there was a gap for a tool built specifically for social-first creation, with brand consistency and fast iteration at its core.
The Social Media Marketing Masterclass with Zaria Parvez, Head of Social at DoorDash, ex-Duolingo | Ep. 422
Q: How do you approach the balance between trends and your long-term brand storytelling framework?
We ride trends in a way that grows Duolingo's lore, aiming to tell a different story with each piece while anchoring content to the core principles we've defined—improv-driven, bold but safe, and always pushing to reveal more about the brand's world.
The Social Media Marketing Masterclass with Zaria Parvez, Head of Social at DoorDash, ex-Duolingo | Ep. 422
Q: You've helped Duolingo grow from 50K to 16 million followers. What were the first levers you pulled to start that growth engine?
I started as Duolingo's first social hire, leaned into TikTok as it grew, and used simple formats like learning content and real creator faces to introduce the brand. The key was treating the mascot as a character in a broader lore and using trends to humanize the brand while staying true to the product's educational mission.
SPECIAL SERIES: The Practitioner's Playbook: Building Your Brand with Carmen Vicente, Content and Social Lead at Slate
Q: How do you balance AI tools in content creation without losing originality or voice?
She emphasizes using AI as a synthesis and editing tool rather than as the primary writer, highlighting that strong writers can be easily identified and that AI should augment, not replace, authentic voice and expertise. She shares practical workflows like using AI to summarize long-form content and flag potential issues before posting.
