Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Kevin Karius Show - Mar. 3rd, 2026 - Mario Tirabassi
Q: How do you think Connor Murphy fits alongside potential left-handed partners like Darnell Nurse or Jake Wallman for the Oilers?
Murphy should be able to handle a second-pair role, bring defense-first stability, and contribute in transition, but the final pairing will depend on how Edmonton wants to manage ice time and defensive assignments, with Wallman being a potentially smoother fit to ease him into a larger role.
The Kevin Karius Show - Mar. 3rd, 2026 - Frank Seravalli
Q: Is Ottawa a playoff team or are they selling to rebuild, and what would determine a big move?
Ottawa is described as needing goaltending support and a move that can stabilize their situation; a big deadline splash would be for someone who has term or a goaltender to steady the ship now, rather than a pure rental.
The Kevin Karius Show - Mar. 3rd, 2026 - Frank Seravalli
Q: How does the John Gibson injury change the Red Wings' week and their approach to the deadline?
The injury is considered a stinger and not expected to derail their goaltending depth, with the expectation that they can lean on their pipeline and internal goaltenders without major disruption to deadline plans.
The Kevin Karius Show - Mar. 3rd, 2026 - Frank Seravalli
Q: What'd you make of the trade, Frank?
Frank argues the deal benefits both sides, with Chicago seeking to distribute its second-round picks and Edmonton gaining a reliable, defensively solid presence who can play tough when needed; not flashy, but experienced and dependable, which is exactly what the Oilers needed in their lineup.
The Kevin Karius Show - Mar. 4th, 2026 - Mark Spector
Q: In your article today, Speck, you mentioned Curtis Lazar in a little arm sling, Wallman didn't play the third. What's the update on Lazar and how might this affect the lineup?
Lazar is out at least a week with a shoulder issue, and while his absence creates some lineup adjustments, the coaching staff will rely on others to step up; the team isn't counting on Lazar as a first-line contributor anyway, so they'll adapt with player depth and potential call-ups.
