  • Local man yells at clouds

I found Randy’s podcast while searching for content about SB 79. I was hoping — especially since it has KABC branding — to find a reasoned overview of SB 79 and what the pros and cons of the legislation would be. What I found instead was a snobby and privileged local home owner who doesn’t understand why people would live in apartments, is afraid of tall buildings, and laments that California doesn’t build starter homes in big cities anymore.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Ballot Counting Begins
Q: Who does Hilton have an easier time running against in November, Becerra or Steyer?
Barcohana argues Hilton would likely find it easier to run against Becerra due to perceived establishment vulnerability and a weaker personal profile for Becerra, while Steyer's fundraising strength and populist rhetoric present a tougher challenge for Hilton.
The Ballot Counting Begins
Q: What do you make of the governor's race and everything we have seen so far?
Barcohana describes the race as a clear referendum on California's one-party rule, noting Hilton's early lead and the consolidation around him, while BIanco's late-ground effort is seen as not enough to overtake the frontrunner, with Bianco's support waning in certain demographics.
300 Dollar Parking For The World Cup?
Q: What do we need to know about Jane Kim for people not from San Francisco?
Jane Kim is a former San Francisco supervisor who is running for insurance commissioner with a strong stance against existing insurance companies and support for a public option, though some fear this could push the state toward government-run solutions without adequate experience in insurance governance.
Gavin Newsom's Empty 2.5 Billion Dollar Promise to Fire Victims
Q: What part of Orange County is District 4 and why are you running?
Tim Shaw explains that District 4 includes seven cities in northern OC, and he's running to bring a moderate to conservative approach, leveraging his experience on the OC Board of Education and as a former mayor to address local issues.
The Latest Numbers Don't Look Good For Spencer Pratt
Q: All right, Susan, I want to get your initial reaction to the latest dump in numbers as we are now in day four of this endless vote counting.
Susan Shelley notes that late-ballot counting and signature verification quirks explain why results shift over days, with the likelihood that Spencer Pratt's lead tightens as more ballots are processed, while she highlights the broader systemic issues and what the numbers imply for the mayoral race.
